i appreciate the face that Rick could probably just keep making videos of interviews with popular musicians for millions of views, but he always comes back to these important videos for musicians and students. thank you again !

I am 64. I started 1 year ago. You keep inspiring me. I just learned Minor chords are flat 3rd..
  • I just got home from singing the Bach Mass in B Minor this afternoon and I am thrilled to hear Rick talk more about Bach. What a treat after a fantastic (and long) concert day!
  • @wolfetom10
I love how Bach's compositions seem so mathematically perfect.
  • @bafoley
Bach's genius is a core part of 1975's award-winning book, "Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid," by Douglas Hofstadter. It's a dense book, but so fascinating to learn how these three explored mysteries in the elemental components of Mathematics, Art, and Music.
  • @eeeeyuke
I love how Bach's music (especially the first piece) are initially simple but grow in complexity....yet never lose their listenability.
  • Didn't catch this live, and you'll probably never read this Rick, but I still just wanted to say that I am so excited to hear you're going to Sweden. I am Swedish and you are a massive reason I was able to develop the skills and confidence to start my own channel. As someone with terrible ears and little to no natural talent, discovering your channel helped me immensely on my musical journey and provided me with a language and a tool kit to start composing on my own.

I absolutely love Bach…very complex and beautiful..absolute Genius..
  • Bach's music is mesmerising. Many of his compositions (especially lute/cello/violin/keyboard) have been arranged for classical guitar and it is very rewarding to study and perform. His Chaccone in D minor (BWV 1004) and Lute & Cello Suites are amazing. I'll never tire of performing them and finding new nuances of interpretation. I encourage anyone interested to find David Russell's renditions of Bach's lute suites here on YouTube and the many renditions of his Chaccone. Great video... 🖖🏼🇦🇺
  • I am so happy that you are bringing attention to Bach and that you are connecting it to contemporary music. In addition to understanding what Bach did with violin, cello and keyboard (harpsichord and organ), I highly recommend diving into and exploring Bach’s music. Check out the Brandenburg concertos. Then get lost in his cantatas. His use of polyphony with vocal and instrumental parts is amazing. And when it occurs to you that each of these cantatas was simply his composition for the next weekly church service, and that much of his music has been lost forever, then Bach’s compositional and virtuoso status may get more of the recognition it deserves.

Rick, connecting Bach and Sting and Eric Johnson and Pat Metheny! Great job! Nothing "new" under the musical sun. You're truly an innovative, inspirational teacher. Thanks so much!
  • I’m very surprised to find that ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) hasn’t been covered on this channel considering how many large hits they’ve had and how complex their music is
  • @LouieSimonedi
Bach was the man....even Pat Metheny said..."compared to Bach....we all suck"!!!...thank you Rick for bringing the ultimate composer back in to consciousness.
  • I live in Sweden but not in Stockholm anymore. I used to live quite close to Södra Teatern and it is a lovely place. You will love it. Many years ago I heard Swedish cellist Peter Schuback play this suite, it was in the 70s. He had two tape machines and two speakers and he had recorded the suite twice and played live between the speakers. So he turned it into a three part fugue as the recorded parts came in a bit after each other.

"Rick, your Bach livestream was mind-blowing! The way you break down the compositions and dive into the intricacies is simply awe-inspiring. Thanks for sharing your passion and knowledge with us!"
  • The five "B's" in music: 1. Bach. 2. Beethoven. 3. Brahms. 4. Beato. 5. The BEATLES!!!... Kudos Rick from Guadalajara, México 21-mayo-2023 ✌😎
  • Rick, you should have a weekly Bach prelude segment. Call them “preludes to Bach” or something😉 I would love to hear you break down the famous c major prelude, or the Eflat major prelude from the 4th suite. Or my favorite favorite cello piece, the d major prelude from the 6th suite. There is so much to get out of them. Just a thought. Your love for music radiates out you, it really makes us all feel a true brotherhood with you. I watch for the enjoyment of that passion, as much as the content. Thank you.
  • Bach will probably always be the classical musician of the old world most synonymously linked to us modern-day rockers. Check out Apollo 100's "JOY" recorded in 1973 based on a Bach piece. BEAUTIFUL!!!
