I'd consider this to be the most underrated upset of all time, cuz Evison was always there in rhe darting world, but just out of nowhere, this particular tournament, the 1996 world matchplay, he turns up and destroys everybody in his path

The best bit was always watching Adam Priestley cry when Den lost🤷🏼‍♂️
  • Used to love watching the darts back then Taylor Priestley evison warriner Harrington brilliant to watch my all time favourite is the power even b4 his first world title didn't think then he'd achieved what he did it's decent now loads of good players mvg Wright wade Anderson price Clayton Cullen but my favourite now is the bully boy Michael Smith ...lost 7 major finals but WHEN he wins one hell take some stopping will Smith future world champion and world #1 without a doubt.....
  • will point out this is the only time that Riley (who make snooker tables and cues ordinarily) has ventured into the world of darts. this board, the Eliminator-Bandit was a precursor back then to the staple free boards you see now. I believe that Shot of New Zealand do a similar board called the Bandit. great performance from both players, Evison had momentum from beating red hot favourite Phil Taylor en route to the final.
  • £12,000 (equivalent to £22,000 today) for winning in 1996. The winner gets £150,000 this year.  Amazing how the prize money has grown in the PDC.

Should have included the walk on's. Priestleys walk on here is one of the best ever.

Sporting of Priestley to take Evison's darts out of the board after he won.
