These are my thoughts on purchasing a cheap underwater housing, more specifically, the Seafrogs Panasonic Gh5 housing. Review begins at 6:00.

  • Sooo where do I begin.. LOL First off.. Its called an Underwater Housing.. Not a water housing? 2nd, Seafrogs isn’t a cheap housing, its an affordable housing. I have been using my seafrogs housing for my A7iii for over 3 years now and have had none of your issues and none of the concern. Your tools last as long as you can maintain them.. I hydrate my o-rings weekly, I thoroughly wash the housing (buttons and all) after each dive. Never leave it in the sun light as much as possible. If your housing fails its likely because you don't maintain it or mis-use it. BTW That vacuum seal add-on is ment to (TEST) your housing. Not a dive add on. The sensor is designed to simulate the immense pressure that will be pressing on the case when under the water at max depth by creating a negative pressure inside the case. So when you create a vacuum inside the housing, then take it underwater you are essentially already maxing out the recommended depth pressure that the casing is designed for.. Who cares? I do, this is how casings implode underwater and you are sitting here spreading misinformation and talking crap on a company that is trying to make affordable housings for people that are interested in getting into the craft without spending an arm and a leg.

I have used these budget water housings from meikon for years. My tips are check and double check the latch before you go in the water. Buy a spare latch for your trip, since that will usually be the part that will break - usually when you open it. Also, whenever I open the case I clean the inner o-ring with a qtip (without removing it). I remove the outer o-ring and run it through my fingers to test for sand. I then clean it with some paper, lubricate it with silicone, and put it back in. One thing I appreciate about meikon is that they offer spare parts at reasonable prices on the website, and publish the dimensions of the o-rings for the various housing models. In contrast, a replacement o-ring for the sony mpk-urx100a underwater housing (from sony) was $65, if you could find one.

Sick video! I couldn't believe the ray shot was with your camera-makes sense now! I like how you vlog before the review. Thanks for the laughs! I laughed every time you cut the music to make a point while doing the review...thought that made it very professional as well. Looking forward to the next one!
  • So dope. Great vlog and even better review. You gave some great insight on this housing that helps me on making a decision on what housing for me to get. Much appreciated.
  • @yurikim01
Great vlog! The ray shot was 🔥🔥. 🤙🤙🤙
  • @johntbd
Thanks for the recommendation. Thorough review.

Loved the shot of the Ray!!
  • @collomax
    Entertaining and informative. Thanks!
  • Hey dude, instead of using saliva to lubricate the O-rings I suggest u to use silicon grease! I have the same housing and it has been a year now since I purchased it. I used it for diving up to 25 meters (with the vacum pump also) and worked very well, but if u dont lubricate the O-rings they get dry and can break. Cheers from CHile!

Great stuff. Just picked up a mavic pro 2. I know it is older, but coming from my spark, is tried and tested. Got my video editing rig up as well. Cant wait for some workflow tutorials on premiere.
  • Yoooo your job basically my dream job!I wanna make documentaries and videos on surfing, snowboard, mtb, etc. these videos are such great tips. Keep em up 🤙
  • Hey Jackson have u tried to do splitshots with the dome port? I have been using the 8-18 panaleica and every split shot is either out of focus in the top or bottom, cant find out the specs to make both parts in focus.
  • @jessewalsh8170
I shoot with the A7rIII and have used a Seafrogs housing for 2 years now with no issues. I only got this housing because it was either $700 for this or the next cheapest one was an Ikelite which after you add ports is over $2000. Huge price gap so Seafrogs it is for now!

Great video! I like this seafrogs housing but I don't know if it works well with my GH5 lenses. I have a panasonic 42.5m f1.7 (very tiny) and a panasonic 12mm f1.4 (very big). Is there any problem if the lenses are too tiny and the distance to the end of the housing is too big?
