Let's Draw Realistic Arcanine

The full illustration was completed in 15 hours. I used Photoshop CS5 with a Wacom Intuos3 9x12 tablet.
He was designed in the vein of a Shisa, a legendary lion-dog hybrid. I focused more on the lion/tiger side. The name "Arcanine" can also be a combination of the words "arcane" and "feline".

Even though everybody in the comments is saying that Arcanine is a dog and I actually do think it is meant to be canine I really love your take on it and you shouldn't listen to anyone who bashes your art just because it's not how they would have done it. I think your art is beautiful.

Everybody is saying that Arcanine is a dog, and it is because it has the word Canine in it. It's ArCANINE. Not ArFELINE. But does it really matter whether the face is a dog or a cats? I didn't even notice until I scrolled to the comments to initially comment about how frickin' great the artwork was. Why hate on such tiny details, whether it's a dogs face or a cats an Arcanine still looks llike an Arcanine and you can distinguish it as that.

I love the drawings. It is really amazing artwork. I also love that you put your own flare. I would like to see a literal interpretation as well though. Seeing how Arcanine is a dog. Then your Blastoise's cannons are more flesh than metal looking. Also the bottom part of the shell looked too small, almost like it can't physically retract and use rapid spin.
