Anyone claiming that "this would never work" has never been put in a proper cross collar choke before. It only takes about 2 seconds before the world starts closing in. A man that is untrained, drunk, and caught by surprise wouldn't know what hit him until the choke was already set in. Also, the video shows a realistic scenario. She clearly isn't interested, and he is getting grabby. Once he puts his hands on her, she is within her rights to defend herself.

I've been doing BJJ for about 15 years. I'm a 1st degree Black Belt under Roberto Traven. I have watched many BJJ related videos. This is by far one of the best ones I have ever seen. I absolutely love this!!!
  • @Craft_Beard.
Please make more of these. This was excellent.

First of all, in the background at the beginning, you can see the guy spike the drink he's trying to give her. Second, she tries to leave and he uses force to keep her there. That's against the law, guys. No one can force anyone to do anything they don't want to, especially with physical force. I think that us guys, being rougher around the edges by nature, sometimes think that this is ok, or, no big deal. That is a fallacious notion. Women have every right to defend themselves physically BEFORE seeking help from the "authorities," just as us men do. Anyone who says that this is wrong and that she should be a good little housewife and go find a man to take care of her troubles is: a) misogynistic b) probably not a practitioner of Jiu Jitsu c) insecure. Besides, there's something incredibly sexy about girls who are trained in the art of choking and breaking limbs.

Sometimes drunk people don't quite understand that grabbing my elbow and holding onto me is going to make me want to fuck you up something terrible.  How about everyone keeps their hands to themselves, yeah?

Most people forget brazilian jiujitsu is and always first a art of self defense it never started out as a sport I respect this video on so many levels It shows women can do it just as good as the man and not to mention the Ricardo Almeida association is number one #teamalmeida

C'mon guys, this is for entertainment value. This does work in certain situations. Like a triangle, to a flying armbar.  It needs to be applied in certain situations. There are many variables to "what ifs". I liked the story. Would it work in a real situation? Perhaps. What it does for women is that jiu-jitsu gave them the confidence and demeanor to control the situation. Could she have kimuraed him, inverted arm, choked him with his tie, caused a scene? Sure.  Could the dude picked her up and Rampage slam her? Absolutely. But the story is slick and it does emphasize "Arte Suave" and that is what should be taken from this. Slick!
  • Anybody who think it is ok to grab a woman's arm should learn that is called an assault. What she did was much nicer than stabbing him in the face with the margarita glass, that many women would do. Both would have been considered self defense by a judge and dismissed if he would have press charges. Most states he would still go to jail because of an assault, also.

    Shh....just sleep. Sleep... now.

Not assault just a demo of what can be done if a guy wouldn't take no for an answer some guys are very smooth with there aggression no one might not see it but she does I use to bounce a lot and I've seen guys who smile and hold on a girls arm like it's the last piece of Buffalo wings this is just a demo to in courage more women to learn bjj it can be great for them

I swear jujitsu people are actual assassins. That deep collar grip is something out of a movie.
  • @Ghostingyou
You are taking this video to literally!! It's about the girl needing to defend herself from someone that has clearly gone over their limit and may not take no for an answer. It is showing the effectiveness of the martial art, should she say no and the person continue to touch her or press themselves upon her. And clearly it works, because he tapped out on her back in about 2 seconds. I wish that all the girls I know, knew of this technique. Would certainly have helped some of them!

The rape apology and victim blaming in many of these comments is why women feel the need to learn self-defense in the first place. Clearly a bar full of YOU guys would not bat an eye if he dragged her out by her hair caveman-style.  You'd be like, "He's just being friendly! He's just TOUCHING her! It's not assault! SHE'S the one who should go to prison for not finding him attractive! If he was sexy she'd LOVE being manhandled and drugged by him! Misandry!!!"
  • A lot of men are commenting on a perceived overreaction but I don't think we are acknowledging the fear and danger that women deal with at a constant frequency.  Roughly 1 in 4 women in American have suffered sexual or physical abuse and situations like the approach of the man in the video are all too common. The man moving on to her is more severe than many are recognizing.  A man who is much larger is entering your physical space, inhibiting your ability to move away, covering up your line of sight and imposing his body on you.  This situation, at the very least, could have escalated very quickly to him groping her or kissing her.  Him being in her space is already a grave violation given our culture of rape and violence. While perhaps the cross collar choke wouldn't have been the #1 most effective response, I think that this video does a great job of reminding us that women DO NOT and SHOULD NOT have to put up with this piece of shit behavior that so many men exhibit. Stop the rape culture, stop defending assholes like this who get drunk and think their behavior is just "playful" or "accidental." I am a BJJ Instructor and I support the message this video sends.
