Glasgow and Scottish Passions

Published 2019-04-23
Rick Steves' Europe Travel Guide © 2018 | Glasgow, once an industrial powerhouse, offers a fun look at Scotland's vibrantly gritty urban side — full of edgy street art, trendy dining, and the striking architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Leaving town, we'll tap into Scottish passions as we tour historic Stirling Castle and nearby battlefields, sample a dram at the land's most beloved distilleries on the Speyside Whisky Trail, watch a sheepdog demonstration, and struggle to lift the Manhood Stone at a Highland Games. • I lived in Glasgow (am Canadian) for a time long ago. Lovely city. When I asked directions to the train station, the shop keeper was having a hard time making me understand his accent, so he just said "ooch" threw up his hands and shut his shop to WALK ME THERE!

I am of Scottish heritage Maternally! My grandfather was John Grandison from Glasgow immegrating to Canada in the 1920s then into the South ( Alabama) of the United States where he met and married my grandmother. He was a Golf Pro at the Birmingham( Alabama, USA) Country Club. Thank you for this glimpse of his birthplace. I hope before my life is over I will be able to visit Scotland. Stay safe Dear Scots. Our World is in dangerous Pandemic waters. These videos of Rick Steve's are treasures for future generations.💙

"British by passport, Scottish by the grace of God" is one of the best things I've ever heard. God bless the Scots!

"Can you give me a tour of your bagpipe and tell me how it works?" Steady on there, you only just met him! 🤣

Absolutely love all the videos of Rick Steves' Europe. First time posting for the series. I'd love to visit a Glaswegian pub, same as I would a pub in Ireland. I'm crazy about Celtic music and the pubs' warm and friendly atmospheres. As for the Speyside whiskys? Had wee drams, and I say Speyside whiskys are tops to share with Christmas and New Year's guests. Yum!

If you didn't believe that Scotland was in a league of its own you only have to sample those quirky sports. Glasgow has a distinctive taste, whats in the air and the waters ; you'll go away with the notes of the pipers in your soul.
  • @1mprince.
Glasgow is in my heart forever ❤️

I visited Scotland for the first time this summer. I visited Edinburgh, Glasgow, St. Andrews, Stirling, and Anstruther. Edinburgh is great but is way too touristy. Glasgow has some outstanding museums and I wish I had spent a few more days there. Glasgow is way underrated and and is worth visiting for sure.

"Stirling, where the lowlands meet the highlands." True, very true.
  • I live in England but I will say that the Scottish people are the best in behaviour and very friendly.

Thank you for featuring beautiful places like Glasgow. I enjoyed it. You brought me to places I have never been in real.

Glasgow is always changing re inventing itself and moving forward with the times the people are so friendly and welcoming it has always been a great city
  • I'm from Brazil. I met a group of Scottish on a trip to Argentina and I'll never forget how friendly and joyful they were. They reminded me of Brazilians. I never knew they could be so similar to us from a land so far away from Brazil. In those times I didn't even speak English so well and until nowadays I don't know how we could communicate, but we did LOL. Since then Scotland has been one of the countries on the top of my list to visit in Europe. I couldn't achieve this dream so far, but I hope one day I will.
