I upgraded my Game Pass subscription to cancelled. I'm tired of being the frog in the slowly heating pot.

Remember when we were all outraged that XBox Live had a yearly fee at all? Because PC games were already online for free? Hey remember how Sony had that as a big selling point, that their PSN was completely free on PS3 while 360 kept charging? Remember how upset people got when the PS4 had Sony decide to copy Microsoft because hey the 360 was selling pretty well with that fee in place. Yeah, and you know how, in point of fact, online play on the PS3 is STILL free to this day? And also, outside of MMOs, PC games ALSO don't require a yearly fee to work online? It's almost as if the costs of hosting online services DON'T require that yearly fee and it was always just a way to scrape a little more off the top. Keep that in mind now that they're increasing the cost of basic online play along with their Gamepass service that many subscribers don't want to pay for just to play the games they bought outright online.

Solution: play PC, wishlist games, and buy them on sale. Most games are buggy af on launch nowadays anyway
-
Don't worry in a few years you will have to pay double again
-
Maybe...if they did not close successful studio, they will have more games to draw in more players.
-
Makes sense that Xbox goes full subscription nightmare and will constantly raise the price. Like you mentioned, the playerbase there is already conditioned to not buy games anymore. In the end, it will end like it has with TV streaming. Constant squeeze of the customers for the almighty shareholders. The line must go up!

Aaaannd the other shoe drops. Consolidation of corps is a helluva dangerous drug fellas. Not even once.
-
Cancelled my Ultimate subscription. Honestly I barely used my xbox anyway at this point as I play everything on my PC now.
-
as some one who collects video games, subscribing to this kind of service feels pointless to me
-
I'm tired of paying more for less

I got two years of Gamepass with my xbox. I didn't renew after that. I'm going to cancel my daughter's ultimate sub and just buy her the games she wants since it's increasing. On the rare occasion she plays online I'll get her a single month. I play online console games mostly on Playstation, so it's no real loss for me.
-
The days of free PS3 online is a distant memory now sighs
-
They're failing since the Xbox One reveal.
-
I have Game Pass Ultimate until October and won't be renewing due to the price increase. I'd rather just save money to buy good games and own them at this point.
-
There's no such thing as a free lunch. With game pass, you own nothing and you pay indefinitely.
-
i support the price model of, if buying isnt owning, pirating isnt stealing

Gamepass is fantastic value for a specific type of consumer. The issue is that their hubris has lead them to believe that it's the defacto be-all-end-all of choices. A lot of customers only play the same handful of games and for these, there's no value in Gamepass. Gamepass is more value to the sorts of people who spend most of their free time gaming and want access to a lot of games, which they can beat and move onto the next. This is not actually what the majority of gamers do. They expect Gamepass to work like Netflix, but very few people using Netflix just use it to watch the same movie over and over.
-
Also I might add not as much growth and increasing price are two things that typically would done in opposite scenarios. No as much growth? Lower the price a little. A lot of growth? Increase the price a little and make the excuse that it's to benefit server capacity for games.

I canceled my sub over the tango game works closure. I just don't believe they ha e a vision any more.
