Russia’s invasion of Ukraine was all the proof they needed to know that war is never too far away and it’s better to be ready than hidden. In response, Sweden has amped up local and global security by not only joining NATO, but also taking off its military capabilities — revealing an arsenal of weapons and assets that would leave jaws dropped, hearts racing, and enemies destroyed. The most notable of this arsenal are of course the fighter jets, submarines, and main battle tanks — all of which we’ll look at in 3… 2… 1… now.

Technically, Sweden uses the "Stridsvagn 122". It is a completely Swedish-made variant of the Leopard 2, but it is more heavily armored and uses different internal systems. It is more like a cousin of the Leopard 2 in that sense.

The greateat strenght is that all systems are (if givet permission) all integrated to one another in real time. If a Gripen or anything in the air sees something, the AI will notify nearby Stridsvagn 122 etc instantly and vice versa. Most of our doctrine are based around small groups working independent, but now AI will aslo make it co operating. All units will basically see everything relevant on a digital map like in a video game, and the personell are trained to take their own descisions, saving critical time from descision making. SAAB posted a great video about it last summer, when demonstrating the new generation Gripen.

The SAAB Gripin is an old plane from 1988. Now the swedes are working on a new version (the "next generation" called Gripen NG) The Gripin is a very versatile aircraft and can work as a fighter plane, fighter-bomber and a reconnaissance plane. The real advantage of the Gripin is that it can land and take off from a ordinary highway and only needs a very short strip to do so. It can change between its functions in about 15 minutes directly on a highway. The swedes regards the Gripin as better than the F16 ..
