How To Groom a Long Haired Cat from Bathing to Drying and the Final Comb Out

Cats do not groom themselves. They lick themselves. Grooming and licking are two entirely different things. One is the act of using products and tools to clean, neaten, clip, trim and set right. The other involves using the tongue to spread saliva around. Whether or not your cat is a short hair, medium hair or has lengthy locks doesn’t matter at all. Licking is licking.
When a cat "grooms" she covers herself in saliva, ingests large amounts of shedding hair and then regurgitates it up on the kitchen floor in the form of a hairball. And on top of the cat spit all over your feline’s body, there are lots of germs and bacteria added from visits to the litter box or running about behind the toilet. Matted cats are uncomfortable and mats can cause skin problems and pain. Regular grooming can prevent mats.

Wow you have firm grip! I've never taken my cats from the neck thing but maybe I shouldnt be scared to do so. That cat was like 'oh okay' 😀

Holding the scruff is fine, but lifting them up by that skin is HARMFUL. They are more delicate than dogs and they are too heavy to lift like that. The skin may tear and hurt the neck as well. Mother cats can do that while the kittens are still very small, but adult cats especially are too heavy to use lift them by their scruff. Grip there, but lift underneath the chest for support.

what a nice cat my kitty turns into a lethal weapon at the sound of water

0:29 THANK YOU FOR POINTING THAT OUT! I have been telling people that for a long time that cats do not groom themselves, they just lick themselves.

Oooookay, so I think I'm a pretty decent dog groomer, but I have never done cats (not on my own at least, apart from trimming claws.) but for my job, I really need to and also want to learn cat grooming, because they won't let me without experience. Do you have any tips or recommendations? For instance...is it possible to bathe them by filling a tub with warm water and just submerging their bodies instead of using flowing water, in order to make them feel less scared? This cat was so sweet, but there might be some terrified/hysterical ones that I'm worried about not having enough hands to hold them and wash them at the same time. What about muzzles, do you recomend them? Blowdrying?

What kind of bar were you scrubbing him with?

Is there a reason why you clipped the claws after bathing? Just curious if there’s a benefit. Is it better after a bath? I groom my long haired Persian Ragdoll mix at home in the kitchen sink. She’s pure white and likes rolling on the ground so I frequently groom her. She loves the water.

My long haired tuxedo Ragdoll cat needs a bath I’ve never gave him a bath before and I’d rather a professional do it. Do you live in Texas maybe I’ll call and ask if you can do it. He’s 7 months old

Excelente trabajo.......❤️

I've used an old window screen in the tub for them to cling on to while I wash them. What was the bar soap you used?

I just bought the stuff to groom and cut my TT. He's not too keen on the hv blower, do you have any pointers to help get him over his nerves please. He goes to the groomers for the last time on Tuesday then we are going it alone can't say I'm confident at the moment lol.
