According to folklore, Ma Kiriteshwari Temple is one of the 51 satipeeths of Hinduism. Here the particle of the 'kirit' i.e. crown of Goddess Dakshayani Sati fell. Perhaps that is why the village was named Kiritakana. There are two notable temples of Maa Kiriteshwari in this village. But according to folklore, the divine Kirit rock of Satima is currently in the Gupta Mandir.
