Quick correction - I accidentally said in the video that the orange Ruru masks were exclusive to the Manas - totally blanked on the fact that they came in the mask packs as well, my bad! The yellow Komaus are still exclusive, though, adding to their rarity.

I gave my Toa Mata Nui to my nephew, i believe he still has all the pieces but in storage. Just the other day i was playing with Lego with my niece and the Gold Mask of Life popped up in the pile, i have it displayed now with my new lego sets

It's crazy to hear how short the shelf life was on most of these I recall clearly each and every one being at various stores throughout the years while growing up Bionicle was a huge part of my childhood, and I suppose this really puts those memories in perspective with how quickly time seems to fly now

The most surprising fact was Karzahni only being available for a month and a half. I had no idea I was that lucky finding it in store.

Wow, I still have the Toa Mata Nui set. Never would have thought it would be worth so much one day.

I've never felt as much power as owning every set in this list. However, I am severely broke for buying almost every Bionicle set except the visorak and hordika, so...

Here's a goot tale: I'm from Terni, the second most important town in the centre of Italy. Italy never went by "store exclusives", you could find anything everywhere. In early 2009, my parents were discussing about our summer holidays, mainly wanting to visit Sweden. So, I just asked them if we could visit Denmark instead, which meant going to Legoland in Billund, back when the biggest Lego Store in Europe was right there, so that I could certainly get my Glatorian Legends there, maybe even Toa Mata Nui. Come August, we went there, had a really great experience. Except for Legoland: it was late August and the store had already sold EVERY SINGLE BIONICLE SET they had, there were just some Agori left. I was on the verge of tears, I felt kinda betrayed. The following day, I bought a Mata Nui set before leaving Copenhagen. Two months later, my birthday came around and, guess what, a stupid store in my hometown had that f'ing Toa Mata Nui. And I went right were sets are made to not find it. I guess it's a happy ending, but gosh if it makes me laugh nowadays...
  • Dang, I never realized that Toa Mata Nui shot up in price this much! I bought it used in impeccable condition with box and instructions for 120€ in 2014 I think, and at that time I already thought the price was insane, wow. Times have really changed! I currently have every set listed here, but I never bought extra parts to have the combiners displayed alongside the retail sets they are built from. Do you think it's worth the investment to part those combiners out on bricklink?

While the Bohrok Queens can battle eachother, the Yanking Function was supposed to be used by the Exo-Toa Set.
  • I loved Bionicles as a kid growing up, and it was the first non-card based thing I started collecting. To this day I still have all of the sets on display in my apartment. Funny enough, the center piece of my collection is a mask that when I first received it, hated it as it wasn't the same color as all the other parts I had. That mask? The pearl gold Kanohi Kraahkan.

It shouldn't surprise me that these sets are so expensive now, but it somehow did. I love the Bionicle story more, the more I learn of it (watched all of Retold! -great stuff) but I wouldn't spend so much on something that would just sit on my shelf. I do plan to eventually get a few old favorite characters, though.

I’m surprised 10023 Rahi Master Builder set and Lesovikk aren’t on this list; those prices are nuts compared to the original MSRP!

I remember getting my Toa Mata Nui for Christmas when I was about 11 years old. I still have the set, though disassembled.
  • @iamkablam8096
I actually had the Bahrag (Bohrok Queens) set! Still have them disassembled in a bin somewhere lol. I absolutely loved playing with them, the neck snapping was easily one of the best play functions Bionicle has ever had in a set. Even though it wore the gears out lol
  • 3:22 I dig the use of Visorak pincers on the sides of this vehicle. Also that big red windscreen would be so good for so many MOCs 😫
  • @nafnaf505
I always wanted to build the Toa Mata Nui set in silver and grey, with some minor changes to represent the Great Spirit Robot, but I never had the silver version of the mask so I never bothered. Nice to know I have the two rarest sets though. I even have 4 Kardas dragons

20:43 Best Christmas present ever I still have it displayed in my room 😂
  • @soundlesspeal
i remember a friend showed me his newest bionicle many years ago. little did i know it would be the top 2 rarest set of them all. really cool to see it here, and i hope he still has the set
  • No one will ever convince me that toa mata nui isn’t an amazing set. By far the crown of my collection. I remember being in toys r us as a kid and my parents offering to buy me a set and I remember my dad pointing out saying didn’t that one look cool. But me and my brother being idiots said we’d rather get more of the smaller sets. So I think we got two of the Glatorian canisters each because then with 4 characters you can make a cool story which is what we did. As I grew up I started playing with them less but still liked collecting them, and at some point I decided I wanted toa mata nui. I remember being so hyped when I won a bid on eBay because I got it for around £50 which if I remember right it retailed for £40 new so it was a good deal, and as a kid I didn’t have tons of money to spend on it so this was already a big enough purchase. I’d also been trying to get it for so long and kept being sniped just as the bidding ended so finally winning it felt so good. Maybe it’s the nostalgia and memories of the story behind it, but even now I have to look at it on my shelf, as the symbol of all of what bionicle was, and my favourite set
