The way she sang it in movie was so natural.

The way summer is described in the movie as someone who would make everyone double take is true about zooey for real. I've loved zooey since I was I kid. My role model!!

I did notice it's a different key but I thought that's the way the character was supposed to do it at the time. It still works.

at first it bothered me, but now it’s such a part of the film & it’s lore, that couldn’t imagine it without this little ”mishap”
  • As a big The Smiths & Morrissey fan, with some formal musical experience, I noticed the key change the first time I saw that scene. I took it as Summer’s natural quirky behavior. YMMV Also, she is accustomed to being approached & is nervous about approaching a stranger so she sings in a higher register. -Dan

That makes it more believable for the character, because not everyone is musically trained, or in a band like she was at the time. It’s funny, this was unintentional but it makes it look like her acting had more depth than it did

always just took it as intentional, works for Summers character

Seems natural not rehearsed - perfection

How did no one notice lol I was a child with no musical background and I could hear the difference. But I also love it that way in the movie, makes it more casual and relatable.
  • Sorry, Zooey, I also noticed it immediately and it's been driving me crazy too BUT I don't love you any less!!!!!!!😂❤❤❤❤❤

I did notice the key change at the time but I thought it was on purpose. When I sing, specially songs sung by male singers I often playfully go 1 octave higher. I thought she was doing the same
