Yet another fantastic presentation Peter. What a great topic! I can’t decide between whose channel I like better, yours or Sea if Tranquility. Out of all the channels I am subscribed to, yours is in my top ten. It’s just fantastic!!
  • Thank you Peter & Tim for another enjoyable & interesting show. Listening to what you both had to say, I fell it`s all about ratings for TV & the bean counters who couldn`t care less about the legitimacy of the acts, as far as being true "rock `n roll". Lemmy wouldn`t have cared less if Motorhead got in or not. The Priest situation just blows me away, I would have told them what they could do with their "plastic" second prize. Never mind we all know who the real "rock `n roll" hall of famers are here on Rock Daydream Nation. 🎸🐑🤘

You made some good points about the backing bands getting in. The RRHOF realized they had made errors in the past and added many years later like The Comets, The Furious Flames & The E Street Band. You'd think they wouldn't make that same mistake again. Personally I don't mind the alternative genres getting in. They all help define rock and roll in some way. Look at Rage Against the Machine. Hip Hop played a huge part in developing their sound. I think in time most of the bands you mentioned, and many other long deserving acts, will get in. They just can't induct everyone at once. Lastly, I'm not a Judas Priest fan, however, it's absolute bollocks that they were inducted they way they were. I'm really surprised they showed up. Good on them for rolling with the punches. My guesses for this years are: Maiden, Bush, Elliott, Michael, Nelson & Soundgarden Crazy omissions: Alice In Chains, Smashing Pumpkins, The Smiths & Wolfman Jack (can't believe nobody talks about him!)
  • There's plenty wrong with the RRHOF, but I'll play a little devil's advocate here. A couple of things folks need to keep in mind these days when discussing the RRHOF. First, the name. It's not all about rock n roll and The Hall realized at some point it couldn't be. Rock as most fans know it, and certainly the Golden Age of rock, probably ended sometime in the 90s. At some point, they'd run out of people to induct. Secondly, the Hall has been playing catch-up since its inception...and they are finally getting to the point where the glaring omissions are fewer in number. Tim's omission list is absolutely Spot On! They are all huge omissions, but as people move down the list of omissions there is a lot more splitting of opinions there. Add 20 of your favorite bands/artists and then who do you have left? And 20 isn't all that many really.
  • Excellent show and topic Tim and Peter! You certainly can make a strong case for all of the artists that you mentioned. Like you both indicated, it seems there has to be a story and they're thinking about selling tickets to the show and big ratings on HBO. My Top 5 omissions: 1. Jethro Tull---had hit singles, AOR tracks still played heavy to this day, and made the commercial comeback in the late '80s. Very long and strong catalog of music. 2. J. Geils Band---one of the best rock and roll bands ever before they hit it big in the States. 3. Oasis---were huge all over the world for several years, albums that have aged quite well, and yes, they have the story. 4. Three Dog Night---band that was a radio staple here in the States for 7 years and introduced us to a lot of songwriters who would have great careers in their own right. 5. King Crimson---Very talented progressive rock band with a musically rich catalog. Changed their sound in the '80s and were more accessible while still being unique. They may be more popular now than they ever were.

I had no idea Toto and Bad Co/ Free weren't in the RRHoF! That's just off! Cheers.

billy squier deserves be in rock hall
  • Hell guys! I always appreciate your insight when it comes to The Rock and Roll Hall of Lame. I think it's interesting that a Canadian and an Australian can talk about why this American institution is so thick when it comes to nomination time. I'm an American and I don't even get it?! I was going to say it's whole "diversity" kick but now I'm leaning towards your ratings theory. As you both know, I'm a huge INXS fan. I just got through posting a comment about obsession w/dead rock stars regarding Michael Hutchence. I also said on that show, who also did this topic: Until INXS is nominated, I don't give a shit!! Pardon my French! Thank you, Pete, for mentioning them! And thank you Tim for bringing up the Bono factor. I thought about it off-and-on, then, you got me thinking. Yes, Bono and Michael were friends. Bono devotes a chapter to him in his book Surrender. Simon Lebon was also a friend of his. Why don't these guys use their influence if they give a damn like they say they do?! And I would've thought w/the Mystify documentary, they'd get some steam. As you said Tim, INXS had seven top ten hits in The States from 1986-1991 (What You Need, Need You Tonight, Devil Inside, New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Suicide Blonde and Disappear). Not Enough Time was even a top 40 hit in 1992. They headlined that concert at Wembly Stadium in 1991 and Rock In Rio II the same year. Many artists have covered their songs recently, Adele, Paloma Faith, The Goo Goo Dolls, Limp Bizkit, Dua Lipa and AFI. Springsteen did Don't Change at a show in Melbourne. Carrie Underwood and Rob Thomas, singers I don't particularly like, have done Never Tear Us Apart. I think any band who tours Australia has to sing at least one of their songs, maybe it's an unwritten rule?!🤣🤣 As you guys said, they were big in the 80s in Australia, Canada and The States. They were also big in S. America and the UK, who were the last to catch-up in the 90s. I even signed a petition to get them inducted. I even passed it on to my mom, who signed it, and a couple of people I chatted w/online. I only wish I had the juice and I'd get them inducted myself! Hell, if Bon Jovi, who are average at best, Def Leppard, who are good but not great (Sorry Tim) and GNR, who still manage to get mileage off that one album, got inducted, why haven't INXS?! This whole situation just makes me want to SCREAM!!

Neil Sedaka. You don't get to add anyone else until you add him.
  • @beastwishes
Always a great discussion Peter, I don't think the RNRHOF deserves the promotion, respect, deference or time wasted on it as a company because after all that's what it is, it's a company with a board of directors.
  • Where's Johnny Rivers , 3 Dog Night, The Guess Who and Grand Funk????
  • @pjones8404
My first comment is plain and simple. The fact that TOM JONES isn't in is THE biggest and more glaring oversight!!!!! Shame, shame, shame, shame, shame!!!!! I don't want anyone in for a 2nd or 3rd time while other bands/artists get denied their ONE shot. Ozzy is in the hall with Sabbath. That is plenty for me. He is in! So, sorry, No Ozzy. No Phil Collins. No Roger Waters. No Roger Daltrey. No David Gilmour! Black Sabbath, Genesis, The Who and Pink Floyd are already in. Here are the bands that I feel are overlooked and deserve a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Now that Rush and Yes are in, this is a glaring omission. Peter Frampton - His impact on popular music at the time was gigantic. Frampton Comes Alive alone marked music for all time. Three Dog Night - How many bands had as many hits as they did in the 70's? Iconic and culture penetrating impact! Ted Nugent - Forget his mouth! His guitar STILL speaks like none other. Ronnie James Dio - Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his solo career. Never mind his PRE Elf material back into the 50's. Just put in Dio and that covers everything he did. America - "Horse with No Name", "Ventura Highway", "Sandman", "Sister Golden Hair", "You Can Do Magic", "I Need You", "Don't Cross the River", "Tin Man", "Lonely People", "Muskrat Love" nuff said! Bachman-Turner Overdrive - "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet", "Roll on Down the Highway", "Taking Care of Business", "Hey You", "Let It Ride"...Huge band. Guess Who - "American Woman", "Hand Me Down World", "Share the Land", "These Eyes", "Laughing", "No Time", "Un Dun", "No Sugar Time", "Guns, Guns, Guns" So put in Randy Bachman at least! On this current list of candidates, I would select these four. Missy Elliott - Between 1997 - 2002 she sold 17,217,313 albums. Influenced the entire genre. Don't care for her music, but the impact is undeniable. Willie Nelson - IF they are going country, he has to be in. Iron Maiden - A no brainer. The Spinners - Legacy soul band
  • @bds1367
FOREIGNER!! The group that current melodic rock bands still try to emulate. Arguably the best singer of all time and Gramm/Jones were a dynamic writing duo. They were inducted in the songwriters hall of fame by Billy Joel. Unfortunately the rock hall is a joke…
  • @jayjaytee9944
Iron Maiden, Kate Bush, Rage Against the Machine, and Willie Nelson just something about Willie everyone likes Willie as a person at least. How the hell is Ronnie James Dio not in the R&RHOF??? The Scorpions????
  • Yes, unfortunately that it's a TV show and you're trying to please everyone. I'd like to see them put out a list of artists and put it on the net and try to focus JUST on Rock and Roll and let the country, jazz. Hip hop, rap, etc get recognized by a Hall of their own genre. We might see artists like Boston, Styx, Kansas, Reo Speedwagon, Jethro Tull, Bad Company, Alice In Chains, The Guess Who, Uriah Heep, Triumph, and Peter Frampton. By the way, is Cindy Lauper more deserving than the previous mentioned. Oh...politics!
  • I keep scratching my head how the Sex Pistols who had one album and I believe the bass player was so bad someone had to do the bass parts,TRex ?,Roxy Music?,Joan Jett ?.All these b4 Tull,ELP,Small Faces,Sheryl Crow,Kate Bush,Cat Stevens,Uriah Heep,Mott The Hoople. If you put some of these bands in for one hit how about Freddy and the Dreamers,Herman's Hermits the list goes on.I feel almost embarrassed when one of my favorites gets in.
  • @beastwishes
What rock n roll albums has Bryan Adams made? haha
  • @beastwishes
surprised you guys never mentioned that Metallica and Red Hot Chili Peppers are in. - I don't care about the RNRHOF but Thin Lizzy absolutely "deserves it" and Queen??
  • @pmar27
They just really need to change the name of it to the music hof. Not a single 2023 inductee can be considered a rock artist. George Michael is borderline pop/rock. I'd love to see one hip-hop artist decline the induction and start a trend back to real rock.
