Forties for me was a decade of confidence. I rarely wore make-up after a lifetime of struggling with acne. Fifties is another ball-game; Menopause rocked my world for a few years, then I came back to renewed glory. At 57, my make-up is basic; Wet-n-Wild tinted hydrator, Elf putty blush in Caribbean, Clinique Black Honey or Pink Honey for lips, taupe crease color and subtle pink shimmer for lid, brown tubing mascara, brown/navy/green shadow for liner on my small hooded brown eyes, also brow defining is a must.

I just turned 40 and I spent my twenties and thirties thinking too much about what other people thought about my makeup. That’s the biggest thing I’m leaving behind. However I feel or choose to wear my makeup is how I’m going to do it. Whether I want to go more “glam”, “natural”, “no makeup” “color” “nude” I’m doing it unapologetically. Side note I actually loved your black eyeliner looks , it really showcased your blue eyes but I suppose in person it would be more harsh. Thanks for the therapy tip.
  • In my late 60s. I didn’t listen then & I’ve changed my look in mid 40s & again in my earlier 60s. I gotta go where the lines & spots take me. Too deep to fill in so lighter makeup makes for a better look. Color on cheeks & lip makes a big difference. We’re all beautiful at every age. Embrace it!!!!!
  • My mother used to to say the worse she felt the more makeup she used. You feel comfortable in yourself. The less you feel you need

I'm approaching 70. Pale lipstick makes me look like a corpse--not so great for old people.

True! Glitter migrates everywhere! In lip gloss (Pat McGrath's,) eyeshadow (Natasha's) and blush. It just gets everywhere it's not supposed to be. Shimmer is a different story, that's okay.

It means a lot to me to see a Christian YouTuber recommend therapy - thank you Zabrena! ❤ I love this list of tips, too. I'm in my early 30s, but just stopped wearing heavy foundation after I realized it was just emphasizing textures in my skin (whoops). Right now I'm wearing Revlon Illuminance Foundation, it looks sooo much better. :)

So funny you say that cuz I’m almost 36 & I’ve spent my 30s healing, but also thriving at times & rlyyyy leaning into & growing my faith & personal relationship with God. I’m back in college working to be a licensed mental health counselor & that’s a dream I’ve wanted to chase for YEARS so I’m super proud. Cultivated a wonderful group of friends. Last year was pivotal for me. I 💜💜💜 your hair in this video, not even cuz it’s straight but the COLOR in particular is beautiful.

I can wear black eyeliner even now, at 51. I'm light complected but if I put it mainly on the upper lash line, I'm good. Also, grey, charcoal and navy are options remnicient of black that aren't as stark, but have a similar vibe.

I left 40 behind in my rear-view mirror decades ago, and in the following years I have given up black eyeliner AND black mascara. I'm a green-eyed, white-haired old lady and those make me look like a fright. Unfortunately, it becomes harder to buy mascara when you don't want black, although I will say that Pacifica's "black" is actually a deep gray, and can work on a pale older person. Right now I'm using Burt's Bees mascara in black/brown. Anyway, another thing I gave up is foundation; I now use Pacifica's Kind Tint tinted serum. (This sounds like an ad for Pacifica, but is not). I never did like concealer and will never buy it again now that I have lots of little "texture" on my face. Another thing that has become a no-no, unless it's for an evening out, is red lipstick. It just sends my look from "ordinary weekday" to "grande dame" in .5 seconds. I have to settle for very natural lip colors now; Milani's "Pretty Natural" and "Roleplay" are working well.
  • Recently not contouring my eye crease and corner, just going with an all over wash to brighten up the area. It’s so much easier and appropriate since my eyes are getting more hooded as I age too. 🤗

I just started to wear makeup when I turned 49 and never could get into lashes but everything else....skies the limit 😅. I will wear any color on my eyes 😮 and my family is looking at me like I'm nuts.
  • Mid 30s here! I’ve worn WAY less makeup now at this age. I’m focusing more on skincare and moisturizing. I make sure to use under eye cream and I feel like it is making a difference. I’ve also realized that I can’t just use any kind of makeup wipe because I’ve gotten eye infections because not all of the makeup was removed. Honest beauty wipes have been my new thing and it WORKS!
  • I'm 37 and have started making tiny baby wings at the very end of my eyes and keeping the line above my lashes bare. I love a good winged liner but have gravitated more toward a thin barely there wing just to give a hint of lift. I also have started wearing super natural lashes. They just are more flattering than the big ones now 🩷

I would love to see some of your recommendations for foundations that aren’t full coverage! Especially ones that play well with spf! SPF is a MUST for me and so many lighter coverage foundations don’t play well with it 😵‍💫
  • Your hair looks gorgeous. I’m sorry you went through trauma. I can empathize and healing is a personal journey . I was never a false eyelashes person but I have purchased the Kiss impress no glue and wear them on outside corners. No glitter for me and can’t find a highlighter that doesn’t even have mica in it. As you get older less is more and more flattering ❤️

I'm approaching my 50's and I am finding that less is more now for me so no more fully matte anything is working. I am enjoying the "no makeup" makeup look these days and I absolutely love the ease of it. I am spending more time in the skincare lane, love taking extra time there ❤️
