Re-Reading My Lowest Rated Book | House of Night Reading Vlog

Omg! This series is one of my all time favorites. Read it eons ago, for what I can remember to me the series got data’s it progressed. Also, I believe PC Cast is part Cherokee she mentioned something about it in a tv interview if I remember correctly. Good to see you are talking about this series 💙

I love annotating but it does take forever 🤣🤣 I don't think I could re-read my lowest rated book. So I applaud you!

Oh NOOOO I HAAAAAAAATED this book so much, how did I forget about this…I swear I blocked this one out until you unlocked these memories from the vault! I remember the girl I was buddy reading it with totally loved it so I had no one to commiserate with. This was THERAPY.

Yikes, the book sounds way worse than I remember 😬 I remember always being put off by the girl hate when I read this as a kid, but I definitely forgot all the slurs and other iffy content. Your reactions say it all though 😂 great vlog!

That’s the problem with annotating and how long it takes! I always end up not annotating the second half of the book as I’m too excited to read it and find out what happens 😭😭

Hahaha your face 😂 omg you’re so weirded out and disgusted . Stevie Rae and Ephraim are my fav chars still and Heath I reread for them . But yeah my head was hurting re reading some stuff. I would love for a cat to adopt me too though. That’s the only other amazing thing from it . Listening from Another persons perspective about the book shocked me . ✨

omg i read this in middle school and didn't notice how problematic/weird the writing actually is. i got some gripes about the book too (some not mentioned in vid): - zoey is such a pick me. this is def a "i'm not like other girls" kind of book. somebody was really projecting with this one. (almost all of the time i've noticed that women hate on other women because they're insecure about being seen as attractive by men. i hope she's worked on that) - this book has the same energy as white people who have 1/16th native american in their bloodline and want to make it their whole personality - damien is described as "too gay to function" which really made me mad in middle school because that is a clear direct rip from Mean Girls (my fav childhood movie) - describing Shaunee as having "seriously good hair" and then proceeding to give her WAVY hair (a hair type not found naturally on black people)... very conflicting message because it appears pc cast is trying to show appreciation for black bodies but is doing it very very poorly. like borderline fetishizing. - "thank you for appreciating my blackness" sounds like the author wanting/expecting black people to praise her/white people for approving of them being black (even when they are being harmful towards their blackness in other ways) which is SO crazy to me. i'm so surprised i didn't remember this when i read it all those years ago. i was going to continue but i'm only 13 mins into the video so ima stop here
