Miriam Margolyes is an actress, comedian, documentary maker and all-round incredible woman.
If you don’t know Miriam’s name, you’ll definitely know her face.
She played Professor Sprout in Harry Potter, starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Romeo + Juliet, and was the voice of Fly in Babe.
She's also made many documentaries, including her latest one for the ABC, Miriam Margolyes Almost Australian.
In this conversation, Miriam talks about coming out as gay to her Jewish parents in the 1960's, why her and her partner live in different countries and body image. She also manages to sneak in a nice little plug to her Southern Highlands Airbnb.
Miriam Margolyes Almost Australian is currently available to watch on ABC iview - iview.abc.net.au/show/miriam-margolyes-almost-aust….

Great interviewer. I hope you go far. The business needs your perspective. Loved your Michael interview as well.

Anyone else here in 2024, and still adoring Miriam?

Never judge a book by its cover as the saying goes ! When I first saw Miriam on TV to be honest, I thought Miriam was an obnoxious loud woman , then I watched Alan Cummings and Miriam on tour ,it changed my mind completely, I now see Miriam as a no nonsense, thoughtful, intelligent and interesting woman. I have so enjoyed this interview.

I think the lesson here is gay or straight people are people. I love that she doesn’t like to be lumped in with one group or the other. She is herself and loves whom she wants to love

What a woman! The fact that she knows what's right what's wrong without any discrimination, it shows her depth of character and perspective . Love you Miriam

Far too many questions about Miriam's sexuality. One of the greatest actors of our time and such an intelligent woman; a great thinker and speaker. I love her openness, her ability to express her thoughts so clearly. Her sexuality is irrelevant!

Miriam is one of the greatest women alive today. I love her fire inside and her wonderful humour.

I was surprised at all of the questions about Miriam Margolyes sexuality and wondered if that was meant to be the focus of the interview until Miriam asked "why all the questions?" I appreciate how the interviewer did not get offended by the question but switched topics and I also appreciate the fact that Miriam Margolyes does not want to be defined by her sexuality because she's right, she's just a person. However, I can also understand the reason for all the questions because Miriam is so outspoken and she came out at a time when it was not as acceptable to be gay as it is today so of course it would be interesting to get her take on things. Great interview.
  • Miriam is totally honest and funny with a vey clear grasp of reality. By far the most amusing guest on the Graham Norton Show.

"Health is problematic when you're old." Amen, Miriam! We all need access to health care. ❤️

I have been binging Miriam's videos for hours and hours. She's always such a joy to watch, haha.

I like how she really thinks about her answers instead of answering on auto pilot.
  • BRILLIANT MIRIAM, I haven’t spoken to anyone for days, and even my children and grandchildren appear unwilling to teach me any technology - I should just “KNOW”. Your ideas for teaching technology to Seniors are much needed, possibly all over the world🌟💕🌈
  • Always loved Miriam and her attitude. And I LOVE her "Sponsor a Nanna" idea. It's so true that older people need help with tech, especially now with COVID.
  • I love Miriam but the stand out was the interviewer, lovely person and fantastic interview
  • Forget national treasure... Miriam is a world treasure. Her forthrightness and positivity are so pleasing.

Fantastic interview! I love Miriam's honest. She actually speaks "proper" English. Such a pleasure to have listened to!

Mariam is amazing! I think she is right. Sometimes it's just not right to put your loved ones through something that was something almost impossible to understand at that time. I have a lot of respect for her and her values.

I kept much of my life private from my dear parents. They loved me unconditionally. I totally understand this desire to protect your parents.
