Thatā€™s why people put ā€œTags: (example) (example) (example)ā€ at the bottom of their descriptions.
  • @Pixelcraftian
Donā€™t they tell you this through uploading or am I getting it confused with something else
  • Tags are used for the algorithm, tagging something with ā€œGTA5ā€ will make it more likely to pop up on the recommended of someone who watches gta5 videos

I still use tags a lot but clearly I shouldn't be. I can't bring myself to stop, it's been a habit for years... šŸ˜…

Tags are used as an ALGORITHM searcher. They do have a use, and that is appearing in the algorithm you have. They do not affect search, but they let the yt algorithm to recommend a video with that tag

Well if you post two things of the same tags and search for the title of one of them itā€™ll show the one you searched for and the one with the same tags will be recommended I assume thatā€™s how it works atleast

I feel like everyone is ignoring that YouTube literally tells you that tags donā€™t do anything for the algorithm in the tags section.
  • tags are actually there to help your videos get recommended to audiences of specific topics, so they are useful.

U can't search tags via the search bar, u have to click the tag via a video to search with the tag. It's a stupid system but that's just how it works...
  • @FaintAcrobat
The tags are used for recommendations, not search. If you watch certain videos with specific tags, the algorithm will then start recommending other videos with the same tags. It has nothing to do with search and is purely for the algorithm to work it's magic. That's why you sometimes get weird recommendations since a tag in that video corresponds to a tag in a video you've watched before. It's all weighted and such so it's not like if you have only watch one video with a specific tag, that it will suddenly start recommending videos with that same tag. Maybe in the beginning but the more and more you watch, specific tags become your preference and the algorithm will try and match videos with as many tags as possible that correspond to your high value tags.

yeah but youā€™re not getting the majority of views based on search. if a user likes gaming and watches lots of videos tagged with ā€œgamingā€ and your videos are tagged with ā€œgamingā€ then your videos are more likely to pop up in their feed than if you didnā€™t out gaming in the tagsšŸ˜Š
  • Bro is the most useful guy on yt Bro wtf 700 likes why I was just stating the obvious
  • @dukkcc2
he just did that 7 years ago wow guys
  • @envar1
This is because you actually have to click on the tags and then they will bring you to videos with the tag. Itā€™s a little dumb, but they do have some purpose.
  • Yeah no texts are only for recommendations. And they're also potentially used as context clues by the main search engine when YouTube videos are embedded in a web page.
  • @Oovyh
Tags are for YouTube to recommend you based on the tags, not on searches.
  • @VinixUltra
Tags just try to get to the right Audience on Recommendations
