Sell the LCBO and let the free market sort it out.
  • It's not about money ... but we want more money. The LCBO can be done away with as far as I'm concerned.
  • @jontipping
Now there are even more reasons to get rid of the LCBO
  • AB went private 30 years ago. Don’t need a provincial liquor board.

The Sask government shut down all government run liquor stores in 2023. All liquor stores in Sask now are private. The Sask government still is the sole wholesaler of liquor in the province and collects the tax on all the liquor sold. The Sask government hasn't lost a single cent on tax revenue from liquor sales. However, the Sask government is no longer having to pay overly inflated union wages for a cashier. The union responsible for SLGA said the same thing that the Ontario union liquor workers are saying, lies about losing out on public money...etc. It's tax dollars from the sale of alcohol is where the money is made. It's time that all governments get out of the liquor selling business. You don't need a government employee to work as a cashier.
  • Lol...they work in a liquor store...an expensive one. Can't sympathise...we need more competition for the LCBO.

Sounds like a monopoly trying to stay relevant because they cant compete in an open market.

Govt has no business in anything retail. Privatize all of it !!
  • It's amusing to watch this from Alberta. Premier Ralph Klein took care of this issue back in 1993. He fought the unions too. Now it's a distant memory! The Alberta government still collects all the tax revenue from liquor and beer sales without having to pay out to the bloating bureaucracy that was administering it.

Never seen so many people that excited to put themselves out of work...

Bunch of glorified stock boys. Get back to work.
  • They're basically highly paid cashiers and shelf stockers. They don't even prevent loss of products. πŸ˜†
  • Let's support more government employees, πŸ‘ŽπŸ‘ŽπŸ‘Žget a real job.

Stay on strike. Doesn't effect me. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Money goes to the Government not anything else.
  • Get rid of the LCBO we don't need them, big rip-off, get it gone, save some more cash a bottle won't cost so much
  • Unfair market dominance and an intentional lack of competition is as Canadian as maple syrup.

Poor retail workers making government wages…. My heart bleeds for them
