I LOVED (and hated) the FOOD of LIMA, PERU

LIMA, PERU has some of the BEST, Must-Eat FOOD in the World. Ceviche, Pisco Sours, Rotisserie Chicken, Chicha, and Inca Kola are only scratching the surface of the sort of food that you'll find in the Foodie Capital of South America: Lima, Peru.

I loved the food I had there, but it also unfortunately made me sick. For 8 Days. So in this video in addition to giving you all my recommendations for some great spots in town, I'm also going to be letting you know what to look out for... so hopefully you can have a happy and healthy trip.

Food is one of the main reasons you visit Lima... but it isn't the only one. The neighborhood of Barranco will give you a taste of Lima's incredible art scene through its murals and culture, the Historical Center and the Plaza show off Lima's history, and Miraflores is a foodie and shopping lover's haven. There is for sure something here for everyone.

Love your face after trying the pollo a la brasa....that was epic!
  • One of the best videos I have seen about eating in Lima, and I have seen tons of them. Congratulations.

I'm limeño, and I remember as a kid listening to all these stories about visitors/travelers getting food poisoned or sick. But that was the late 80s/early 90s and that was a completely different world. Nowadays I find it so unusual to hear people getting sick. In fact, several friends and acquaintances have travelled to Peru and they have eaten so many things I wouldn't, they never got sick. Rule of thumbs (from a local who now live abroad and got food poisoned also in Brooklyn), I'd never eat raw fish from a street food vendor specially when the country is in the middle of an unprecedented heat wave caused by El Niño. The temperature reached in Lima during January/ February 2024 is an anomaly! That increases the chances of quick decomposition, bacteria, etc. Although drinking tap water is a no, for sure; I wouldn't be paranoic if I ate a fruit or veggie that has been washed under a running faucet. I'd be more concerned if that said water has been stored in buckets or previously used to wash other fruits or veggies.
  • I sense Inca Kola is best sirves chilled when eating “Chifa” food which is sweet and sour in flavour, nice video man !
  • I'm sorry you got sick... I've been there... Great choices, Isolina is hands down MY favorite. I go every time I'm in town. LOVE Panchita AND Punto Azul as well. Great video!

Ceviche was created by the Caral civilization 5000 BC in Peru.. In the 70s and 80s ceviche wasn't known or eaten in. mexico, chile and the rest of latin american countries. Ceviche became popular through peruvian international restaurants and peruvian inmigrants that moved to different countries.
