Building Fences, Not Hospitals: Rethinking Mental Health Support in Organizations

Published 2024-07-16
Would you prefer a hospital at the bottom of a cliff or a fence at the top?

In many organizations, I often see the hospital at the bottom approach: a helpline or benefit that pushes the mental health conversation outside the business, telling people to get on with it once they’re back.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t manage my mental health through an app.

While I do seek physical health support and watch YouTube for inspiration and learning, relying solely on self-assessing my mood, following self-help tools, and giving my data to an organization doesn't have the full impact that was intended.

That’s my view—let me know your thoughts :)
