The Kursk incursion is a salient just like the Russians did to the Germans - also at Kursk. In WWII the Germans were caught in a similar pocket by the Russians and were forced to retreat with great losses. Ukrainians are in a pocket and won't have time to build defensive positions to hold it. Striking deeper will only stretch vulnerable supply lines. Moving east behind Russian front lines might serve some purpose but, taking and holding are vastly different things. My bet is that they pull back after causing as much damage as they can and before losing too many men..
