hi friends! welcome to a new series (??) of regular writing vlogs as I try to finish the first complete draft of my dark academia adult fantasy novel. come write a book with me!

the process of drafting this book has been a bit of a wild ride over the past few years, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel, and I'm so excited to bring you along on the journey to the finish line, then to querying and beyond!

In 2024, my goal is to create more content like this vlog, where I get in-depth about my writing projects and my writing journey. This video was actually really fun to make in a way that vlogs haven't been in a while for me, and I'm super excited to film more soon.

thank you for watching :)

Productive procrastination isn't so weird. It's how my apartment gets cleaned (when I should be writing as well). 😄 Congrats on grad school and way to go on finishing Act 2!

as someone who has been writing Carolina Reaper levels of spice (ha, fanfic writer here) for well over a decade, my advice on the spicy thing, esp if you're uncomfortable with it, is rather than focusing on the.... vocabulary (is that the right word in this case? lol) of certain acts and parts, focus a lot more on the emotional and physical REACTION, like what's happening on the inside rather than the outside (pulse, breathing, heat building, the way the characters look at each other, etc)--and short is fine in both cases. It doesn't need to be super long or super descriptive, esp if that's not something you're comfortable with. i will say it DOES take practice to figure out what works best in a spicy scene, esp a short one. In moments like those, time can be sort of wonky almost--slow down and quicken up all at the same time, so it can be fun to incorporate that sort of feeling into the writing of it. idk if this advice helps, but I hope it gives you some ideas at least!

Dark academia adult fantasy???? Alternate version of Paris??? This is my first time hearing a description of moths and I am dying I want to read her!! Also I am dead at you saying you’re still allergic to saying the names of parts of things hahaha I feel like I would feel the same way. I related to so much in this video, I also have an attractive antagonist and I’m very conflicted about it lmao. I feel like it’s fine as long as you’re not romanticizing the questionable things he does??? Idk I’m questioning this too lol. I love that you’re going to be doing this series regularly, looking forward to future episodes!!! rooting u on🫶🏼✨

Congrats on getting accepted into a master's program, woohoo!! 🎉 I LOVED this video! I started following your writing journey after reading your short story on your blog and the pitch you made for Moths and Swan, so I will take whatever crumbs you give us as your finish-up Moths🫶

for me short spicy scenes are also better. I like them in a romance book, but not when its pages and pages of it.

YOUR PRETTY LIGHTS OMGGGGG. I'm so happy to see you finding your groove on moths again AHHHH <33 also i feel so happy listening to you talk about balancing writing/content creation bc i have also felt strange about existing online.... in general...... and doubting whether or not my writing will be taken seriously because of my social media presence. it's weird but i've felt reassured by watching other writers do both SO WELL 🥹

THIS VLOG IS SO FUN!!! I literally feel the same thing about my own writing vlogs and not having something to show for it.... but also at the same time... this is our lives and things are happening!! Something progress is hard to capture with just one video too :') Also, Lynn you are SO SO pretty I love the lighting in this whole video, it's cozy and comforting. WE GOT THIS <3
  • I’m a procrastinator too. For example I once left my plastic Christmas tree up till March last year. Also, I have been working on my book more because I’m sick and I have more free time but I still have to finish my outline. 🤣

YAYYY Moths comeback !! i’m so so glad you’ve found some fun in these writing vlogs, that’s the most important part! ✨ SO exited to follow this series!!!

Oof, I definitely understand what you mean about "productive procrastination." I have that problem so bad, and in some ways I feel like it's worse than being someone who just blows things off, because procrastination that you can justify is probably the most dangerous type there is. I found your thoughts about the divide between being a writer and a content creator very interesting. I feel like these days, the lines between career paths are getting blurred, even in the traditional market, and it can feel weird to find your place in it all. Especially when it comes to something like writing, which is a career path that (can be) quite "prestigious," and content creation which I think has an association with selling out (?) and being kind of fake. (Not my thoughts, mind you.) But much like how there's different types of writers, there are different types of content creators, and I'm glad that you're finding that balance.

i'm so happy for you that the book is going well! honestly, your channel has honestly made the idea of finally starting writing my own book, that i've been scheming about for years, seem actually somewhat doable 💗wish you the best of luck with finishing the first draft!!
  • @tianawithaj
i love writing vlogs & would love to see writing while traveling content! i also love the part at the end where you talk about being able to be both a writer and a content creator, definitely feels like a balancing act and it's easy to feel like making content is superficial compared to writing

Make him hot, but never refer to his looks after the first appearance. The reader will know that he is attractive, but if you don’t refer to that too often afterwards, it won’t be a huge part of how we view him. (The antagonist)
  • @Ash_Thomp
My biggest tip is to focus on the emotions more than the positions. And I hate the words for genitalia too so I use phrases like “she took him in her hands” 😅

Congratulations on getting into grad school! Being an educator/studying education is wild. I know. 😭 I love your logline for MOTHS and the way you described it! I LOVE dark academia fantasy! And your comps are impeccable! I haven’t read BABEL yet (but I own it, it’s on my TBR)—but I did read STARLING HOUSE and I loved that book! I love hearing about your journey with this book, too. It’s so cool to hear about your process! And I will DM you on Instagram about your podcast. I haven’t forgotten! I always love talking with other writers.
  • @nadiahzkr
