Since arriving on the scene in 2009, the British folk rock band Mumford & Sons has gone on to become one of the biggest musical acts in the world, selling millions of albums, winning Grammys, and spearheading a whole retro musical movement. Members Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Ted Dwane, and former member Winston Marshall have broken down barriers and melted hearts around the globe.

But not everyone loves their work. They have been accused of appropriation and inauthenticity by some, and Marshall had to quit the band after getting mired in political controversy. And their forays into world music have alienated some fans that would rather see them stick to their old sound. Here's the untold truth of Mumford & Sons.

What do you think about Mumford & Sons?

Look at the state of the m&s Community. Destroyed a man's love for reading a book. Makes me sick
  • I’m a metal head and have always been ripped to shreds for loving these guys. Wouldn’t be very metal if I buckled and pretended they weren’t awesome lol.

Winston needs to return, his mates need to stand behind him.
  • It’s incredibly frustrating to see Winston leave the band under the circumstances. I saw the outrage first hand on Twitter and it was appalling how quick ‘fans’ were to attack him for simply congratulating Andy Ngo. One thing this video left out was that the far left idiots were sending death threats and seeking to physically harm the gents and their families of Winston didn’t leave. It’s unfortunate. I hope he rejoins and we can all go back to normal

I love Mumford and Sons. I’ve seen them four times in concert and have purchased three of their albums on Apple Music. It’s so disheartening to me that they turned their back on Winston Marshall. A man they loved and respected. I will never support them ever again…
  • imagine a world were you simply read a book and then are attacked on social media by a culture, which forces to you leave your career to protect your co-workers .... THAT'S the story of MUMFORD AND SONS

The band is incredibly talented and I adore the music. However, when Winston (whom I view as a hero) was pretty much forced to leave the band, I tuned out and now follow him all over YT.
  • Stunning and shocking how great they are....even more shocked that they receive disliked criticism of any kind...oh well, can't argue about tastes....but they floor me !
  • This is a funny wrong commentary! I like how this “article” is about their big come out tour. Why wasn’t the railroad tour even mentioned?

Love Mumford and Sons and they are the theme song to my new favorite show Ted Lasso.
