Childe [Genshin Impact Character Analysis]

Published 2024-06-10
Alot of Genshin characters are misrepresented greatly by the fandom for one reason or the other and I am not about to get into the media literacy and reading comprehension skills of the genshin community right now but amongst the characters that have been most misrepresented in the fandom Childe is pretty up there. Even his own so called die hard fans sometimes misrepresented him, so today I will be trying to clear up 3 of the most common misconceptions I personally see about Childe.

Whenever I have to explain it I'll just say: he isn't bloodthirsty, it's not pain and suffering that he enjoys. He's more... fight thirsty? He doesn't enjoy fighting opponents weaker than him, doesn't consider them interesting people, only fights them when he sees a neccesity to it. He does enjoy fighting people stronger than him, people who make the battle difficult to overcome. Sure, pain, blood and suffering are part of the battle and he can enjoy those things in the moment. He reminds me of an adrenaline junkie that has to go farther and farther in order to chase the same high.
  • 1. The reason Childe loves engaging in battles is simply because he wants to get stronger, not because he wants to harm innocents. 2. Childe’s importance to the lore can be traced to way back when he was released. We knew early on when we saw the Traveler’s sibling in a cutscene in the Mondstadt Prologue that the Abyss will be an important part of the story, and Childe is one of the characters that were released early on and that still had connections with the Abyss. If we consider characters like Albedo, Kaeya, Mona, etc to be early released characters that have an importance because they have ties with the Abyss and/or Khaenri'ah, we should consider Childe as one of those characters too. Childe is also one of the only characters who has connections to the Abyss (Skirk, etc) itself, not the Abyss Order (Traveler’s sibling, etc). In Childe’s story quest, he literally injures himself while using his Foul Legacy transformation when he was still injured just so that Teucer could keep his innocence concerning the Ruin Guards (ahem, Mr. Cyclops). He wouldn’t go that far if he didn’t value Teucer that much. The last part of his story quests is literally called “Defender of Childhood Dreams”, and when you join him at the end when he is sitting down he tells you just how much his siblings and their childhood means to him, something that the Traveler goes silent about (you get the singular option of saying “…” as the Traveler). Childe disrespecting women in general isn’t true at all. When we meet him in Fontaine, he tells us that he has been searching for Skirk ever since he came out of the Abyss, meaning he has a positive view of her. In his voice voicelines, he mentions how he wants to be able to fight Skirk while she’s using both of her hands, implying that he wants to be as strong as she is one day. He also mentions how he was looking forward to a spar with Clorinde, someone who he considers to be one of, if not, the best fighter(s) in Fontaine. In his character stories, it is mentioned that when he saw the Tsaritsa for the first time, he saw her as a true warrior (one of the reasons why he likes her) and he vowed to be loyal to her out of respect for her. Sorry for the long essay lol. I just wished people knew more about the nuances of Childe’s character and that they didn’t limit him as just “a character that likes to kill” 🥲 Thank you for this!! People definitely mischaracterize his character too much sometimes Loved the video! Keep up the good work!!

This! In the Liyue Archon quest, he fully believed that the Geo archon will save Liyue(as Signora said). When it comes to women, he really i just friendly and respectful Not forget what he said to Arlecchino on her quest about the house of the heart children.. as well as his impression on her(that is true) since it is where their loyalty lies

The thing about people hating Childe that I find a bit unfair is the 'he lied to us/betrayed us'. Did people really expect him to immediately just betray his homeland, his family and his god for us on the first meeting? That would not be the kind of a character I would like to associate with really. One of the things I like most about Genshin is that there is depth to most of the characters. Some of the best moments for me have been where the preconceptions of a character have been overturned. Especially in a good way. However, I don't know what kind of a miracle they would need to pull out of the hat to get me forgive Dottore, but I am looking forward to find out.

One of my favorites parts from the Fontaine archon quest was when we go to jail and meet this trio - Alexis, Poirier and Leonide - who essentially met Childe and fanboyed for him so hard they hid, aided and abetted his escape from the Fortress of Meropide, all without even knowing who he was, simply because he was just that cool. These folks met Childe intending to hassle him and ended up his loyal followers who gave their all for their 'boss' - and that's a real example of canon Childe behavior. People call him arrogant, egocentric and childish, but they fail to realize he's actually a really charismatic guy who treats not just his family, but also his subordinates well, and earns the respect of everyone around him
  • Thanks for this, he's been a favourite for years and needs more of this type of analysis
