It’s funny how ONE GUY. Made a better short than anything else on the Warhammer tv site where a team of people made the others. This guy is a LEGEND!!
  • The Astartes animation taught me I'd wait 6 years for 10-12 minutes of content of this quality. It is so good that I can watch it a few times a year.
  • @bobhope2380
Just so you know, at the end where you said "This guy must be a battle hardened soldier". You can see his years of service on the service studs above his left eye. The gold mark was his century (100 yr.) stud. And the 2 silver ones were 50 Years each. So, This marine has been serving somewhere between 200-250 years.

What I love about this is just how Relentless the Space Marines are. They don't slow down, they don't stop, the keep coming. Even with the two Psykers they were fighting, as soon as he's released from their grip he doesn't pause, no sense of relief from being released, just stabs him, rips the spinal column out, and then straight back on the job.

Each bullet is basically a micro rocket propelled grenade that explodes when it enters the body of the target. That's why they hit so hard and explode.
  • @RedemptiveChief
i have seen this hundreds of times and never spotted the other squad members being teleported there. the detail level is insane
  • @darkspire91
It really says something about the talent behind Astartes that, after all these years, we're still analyzing and talking about its details.

Astartes is one of those projects that makes you question any skill you have. One dude created maybe the best video experience in the Warhammer universe. Just the way this scene plays out is an absolute masterpiece of action film-making. Every single scene tells you more and more about the brutal, cold efficiency of a Space Marine. Every location tells a story by its set dressing alone. 11/10. That this dude isn't leading a team of animators, creating a Warhammer series by now is criminal.

First time I've ever heard this new music. Missing so much of the impact from the original. The music from the origin was so much more 'moody' and 'heavy'. Hard to describe.
  • They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay I shall mould them and in the furnace of war forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armour shall I clad them and with the mightiest guns will they be armed. They will be untouched by plague or disease, no sickness will blight them. They will have tactics, strategies and machines such that no foe can best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines and they shall know no fear.

I remember when the artist was releasing them 1 at a time, of the course of a couple years. then we heard he got hired by Games Workshop, he was going to have a budget (instead of crowd funded), staff, official support. then nothing.

The Astartes project is based off of the Warhammer: 40,000 (or 40k for short) universe. The Astartes (or Space Marines) are bio-engineered super warriors that serve and protect The Imperium of Man, a vast galaxy spanning human empire 40,000 years in the future. In this video, the astartes of this specific faction were hunting down the leaders of a rebellion against the Imperium. What they found was that the rebels were under the control of an unknown, psychic alien species (the spheres). The guy in the red coat was something called a psyker, a powerful psychic individual who was able to listen in on the telepathic conversations of the spheres. The red coat with the skull in the middle of the capitol "I" meant that he was also a member of the God-Emperor's Holy Inquisition, the most powerful organization within the Imperium. He became possessed when he lost focus to warn the Astartes about what he had heard and said "Withdraw them immediately!" . In case you're wondering what the spheres said to each other, here it is: Sphere 1: "Brother, I have failed." Sphere 2: "We have all failed." Sphere 1: "The Astartes deny our touch." Sphere 2: "You must return, break your seal" Sphere 1: "Impossible! We will never survive" Sphere 2: "You must. Take them!" The Warhammer 40k universe is VAST and deep with practically mountains of lore. It is arguably the greatest sci-fi universe ever created. You guys will not be disappointed in learning more about it. Welcome to the rabbit hole, brothers. Another thing some people also miss, at the end when he's standing on the pillars, in the distance when you see all the giant skeletons, you can see other flashes of lights of the other marines teleport in the same area as the one we saw

19:37 - This is where the sound design changes hurt the new version the most. In the original there is a drum beat and flash for each of the rest of his team as they teleport in.
  • @calebwhite5600
I wish it was a 3-hour long feature film. This video introduced me to the Warhammer 40k universe, and now I've been reading the books, diving into the lore. It's massive, and incredible. Wish I found out about 40k sooner.
  • new detail noticed, the trigger style at 4:38 is a real thing ive never really seen used outside of real life. this man knows his stuff
  • @TheArklyte
What that series has done superb is showing professionals. No fancy heraldry, no absent helmets, no melee combat just for the sake of it, no glory hogging, no fancy rare weapons, no separation of "main protagonist and expendable extras". And the opposition is also acting professionally, preparing killzones, using antimateriel rifles, magnetic mines and all they can.
  • @damianallen4964
One of my favorite moments was when the Sergeant rips out the spine augment, and it's lit and framed in such a way that it reminds you that Astartes are Terror Troops. One doesn't even have to be a Night Lord to be properly horrific.
  • @XtheMagus
I love how many people in the animation industry have talked about just how crispy this series is.
  • @AlwaysAstral
I never noticed his squadmates getting teleported to the surrounding pillars holy crap you have eagle eye vision! Very insightful commentary.
