Moreton Bay's health is under threat from local construction | ABC News

Published 2024-08-06
The construction industry is being blamed for a third of the sediment runoff into Moreton Bay.

It comes as a study found almost 100 per cent of the once sandy sea floor in Moreton Bay, where the Brisbane River meets the sea, is covered in mud.

Silt fences — green mesh stapled to short pegs, designed to trap sediment — in development zones are contributing to the problem, as rain can dislodge the material being stored.
