Aspen Words Presents Michael Lewis & Malcolm Gladwell in conversation

Published 2021-05-24
Literary luminaries Michael Lewis (“Moneyball,” “Liar’s Poker”) and Malcolm Gladwell (“The Tipping Point,” “Blink”), discuss Lewis’s new book, “The Premonition: A Pandemic Story.” This taut and brilliant nonfiction thriller pits a band of medical visionaries, working under the radar, against the official response of the U.S. administration to the outbreak of COVID-19. This event is a collaboration with the Aspen Institute’s Science & Society and Health, Medicine & Society programs.

These two guys are inimitable. I would probably wreck my car if I saw a billboard advertising for a lecture, a concert of just these two guys talking on ANY subject. The feed off of each other so well.
  • I want to read all of Micheals books ! He's so interesting to listen to. I got to read all his written words .

I remember two lines from “The Premonition” they are from the description of Santa Barbara County and a description of Charity Dean. About the county, “Scratch paradise and you’re plunged into the book of Job” and about Charity Dean, “they thought my spirit animal was a bunny, but my spirit animal is a fucking dragon”.

Great.insight into the life of a female who has been delivered to chaos. The resources described what was available for nurses 54 yrs ago when with eyes wide shut we signed up. In emergency rooms for the major teaching hospital i attended was a sign that read "I have done so much for so long with so little
  • Malcolm is awesome and I'd love to be as calm but interesting as he is.. These two men are genuine friends. They make each other better people and writers !

There is an article by Malcolm, it is called Loopholes for Living. Anyone with access to it, pleas help
  • My top characters in Michael Lewis books: Steve Eisman (Big Short) Jonathan Lebed (Next: The Future Just Happened) - by far the most underrated book by Lewis IMO Billy Beane (Moneyball) Michael Burry (Big Short) Jim Clark (New New Thing) Brad Katsuyama (Flash Boys) - disagree with Lewis' assessment of his own characters!

We do need to elevate the L6's
  • 18:24 I thought for sure Malcolm would choose the character of Danny and Amos together (as a combo 'relationship'). They are the Lennon and McCartney of cognitive psych: each is fascinating, but the collaboration is the magic! (obviously, a main theme of The Undoing Project).
  • Would it be possible for Graham to move away from the window? All I can see is a large halo but not him
