The development of FF7 was finalizing its maps and scenarios for launch. However the game also faced much challenge of censorship by it's publisher, Sony. Today we explore this.

  • Thank you all soooooo much for watching and following us on this FF7 series to its end. It was one of my biggest dreams on this channel next to my Ocarina of Time series to do one on FF7. Fix Notes: 8:24 - Apparently I did the incorrect pronounciation of Costa Mesa here... blame that on me being Canadian :P 16:38 - Typo here by saying 1999 instead of 1997. November 17, 1997 being the correct European release date
  • Ah yes in 1997 i was at my Grandma's house and cried watching "that scene" with my cousin. This game def had a good release here.
  • @jgwinnel
Always a solid video. I remember when it was announced for the PSX in August 1995 or so and it was my mission to get the console. I still have the original demo discs from Tobal and PlayStation Underground as well as the game. I got real lucky back in 1997 when a local game shop broke street date by a week early and sold me my preorder, perfect way to finish out the Summer. 👌🏻
  • @laddieb5960
How amazing! I thought I knew everything there was to know about ff7 until I watched this series. Thanks for making it
  • @bakacdaz
Kitase after seeing Toriyama idea : Did you forgot our game is Rate T!? (Or whatever it is on CERO standard)
  • @gjtrue
I don't remember even seeing that " . . . was caught by surprise." text in the game. What causes that?
  • @Koniving
Team of 50? I'd imagine 50 people couldn't do nearly so bad. I'm curious why the sole translator story persisted for so long? "Who translated Final Fantasy 7? The game credits aren't entirely clear as to who all was involved in each translation, but signs seem to point to Michael Baskett as the sole translator and Aiko Ito as the localization coordinator."
  • @TheSpiderPan
I remember getting my day one copy. wish I still had it. would be a collectible now.
  • @Moskau43
16:35 the European release for PSX was Nov 17th 1997, not ‘99.
  • @ko55579
Risqué stuff being added by Motomu Toriyama,What a legend 4:08 😅
  • In Germany, it was so badly translated that all other games were to be translated independently from Japanese. I played the German PC Version back then
  • Localisers and translators are two different positions. Many modern Localisers do not speak Japanese.
  • @acerimmer8338
I've played that cut Honey Bee section thanks to modders. I was laughing my ass off! It was genuinely hilarious and over the top. Palmer slunking away was my favorite.
  • Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I remember seeing an image of Jessie somewhere as an sprite like those of Cloud, Barret and Aerith in the video, the post battle screen. Did I just dream it? I can't find such thing anywhere.
  • @DoodlesGaming
Great series. But, FF7 also released in Europe in 97
  • @infernape100
man, 1997...I was 2 years old when it came out, turning 3 that december.
  • All that effort to keep the Honeybee Inn in the game, and I accidentally skipped it on my current playthrough.
  • @BeIlG
costa me sa X'D. I've never heard it that way. I have only heard: coast -ah(almost like coastal but ah instead of al) may-sa(this makes it rhyme between the two words/names)
