Hi Adam, I am a developer at Fidlock. I am very happy to see our products on your bed roll. It's always cool if we get mentioned because buckles normally are nondescript parts of products. Developing products to perfection is hard but fun. :D

I do R&D for a cut/sew shop in Wyoming, it's awesome to see textiles showcased in your episodes. They're so often overlooked but so much work goes into designing and manufacturing textile products domestically. Kudos for using local manufacturing instead of outsourcing to China, the higher price is worth every cent.

As somebody that has made more than a few bedrolls, bivvies, and hammocks for camping it's nice to hear you found somebody that taught you a bit first. When I started I jumped in feet first and had more than my fair share of very expensive lessons. Back in those days you either found somebody locally that wanted to sell you their products and die with their secrets or read a book that might not even be relative to the area you are in.

I really never thought about the "hunting for a dark object in a black tool bag" problem before. I have, several times, ended up dumping out a tool bag to find something, and now I can never NOT think about the frustration of that.

I'd really love to see a hiking/camping backpack from you in your bag lineup. You use good solid materials with strong engineering. Bonus points for the bedroll to attach to it cleanly.
  • Mine came today! I haven’t unpacked/unrolled it yet as my wife is going to put it under our tree for the holidays. I will say the initial look and feel is more than I hoped for! For those worried about the crinkle or noise of the sail fabric, fear not! It is soft and quiet!

I keep a few staple comfort items in my work truck in the event of a breakdown or some other situation that necessitates having to boondock in my vehicle. It consists of a bed roll, a convertible poncho/one person tent, bag of Tea Candles with terracotta discs and perforated Progresso Soup Can for heat, another progresso can for melting snow, bullion cubes, tea, sugar cubes and beef jerkey. The whole kit fits neatly in a modified Gerry Can with a hinged top that stores flat in the bottom of my trucks toolbox. Always be prepared Folks! Zip~

Wow it sold out in under 17 hours…. Well what can I say. I have been in the Navy for 22 years and have never seen anything like the bed roll you developed. I am looking forward to you getting this back in stock because I can’t wait to pick up three of them. One for my car one for my truck and one for my mom… I do love gear I can depend on
  • Thrilled for the bedroll. What I lack in skills as a maker, I make up for in my love of all things bushcraft. This is right up my alley and will fit right in inside my Jeep kit.

As an artist, seeing someone in the wild trying to replicate what you've created is one of the best feelings.

Thank you Adam. You were and still are my hero. Never stop man, much love from Sweden.

I'd like to say thank you for selling plans for the bags, It was great inspiration to learn how to sew. I wish I had a use for one of these.
  • @muramusan
I had no clue but I'm so glad you make your own products and for sure will buy them and support 😊

Ordered. I still have my UK Sailmakers duffel bag that I purchased 25 years ago at the Strictly Sail show, but a bedroll is something I need! When I did concerts, I used to take a sleeping bag and nap under the stage between sound checks. As a TV station engineer, I used to sleep on the couch of the studio set during heavy snow storms, to save me a treacherous drive to work. I would have been a lot more comfortable with a bedroll like this! It looks ideal for making my pickup bed into a capsule hotel.
  • Great looking stuff! It's very nice that you don't constantly hawk your merch. Showing your new stuff, and the vids on the original bag and apron are legit and interesting. Thanks for not falling for the allure of spieling about the Bassomatic or other such junk.
  • Love the bed roll and the material. Only suggestion would be where the handle is. You should consider moving the handle so that when it is rolled up no wool edge is exposed to the elements it will help to keep the wool dry. It is all in the way you fold and roll it to have just the outside material always exposed to the elements.

Really hoping more of these get made soon! I've been holding out on buying a bag for too long now praying for one of these black bags to come back in stock. Same with the bedroll! We need more! Thanks for showing us your process!

I used to have a Pendleton wool bed roll, that I added one of my gabardien blankets from the barracks. Great combination of warmth and non-itch. I too kept mine in my car for 20+ years, (five of them being in the semi when I did over the road trucking). After a heavy blizzard here in ND, I helped the kids build a snow cave. Unbeknownst to me, my wife took my bed roll out of the minivan and let them use it for the floor covering. While the kids thoroughly enjoyed the snow cave, for nearly three months before the roof collapsed, it would be another three months before I noticed parts of my bed roll sticking out of the mud and slush. Needless to say, the entire thing was a complete loss. Even the leather straps were moldy. So, yes. When you have more available, I will be buying one... possibly two. 🤔

Your wool supplier sounds like a very smart businessman. He understood that if you went ahead with your initial order, the product you made with his wool wouldn't have been a good product. If your bed rools don't turn out well, you won't be placing future orders from him. By educating you on how to best use wool in manufacturing products, he set you up for success and himself up for a repeat customer. Most companies don't consider the long-term effects of selling someone a product they believe will not work best for the customer. They only want the current sail. At most, they might be hoping they will have to come back for the right product.
