Who knew? The same mechanisms that are involved in brain degeneration, cardiovascular disease, and virtually any other chronic degenerative decline that we experience in our bodies is also at play on our bodies, meaning affecting our skin. Yes, free radical mediated stress and inflammation are the pillars of what causes good skin to go bad. So, with that in mind I felt it would be terrific to interview a leader in holistic approaches to skin care and plastic surgery, Dr. Anthony Youn. Let me tell you more about him.

Known as America's Holistic Plastic SurgeonĀ®, Anthony Youn, M.D. F.A.C.S is a nationally-recognized, board-certified plastic surgeon. Recognized as a leader in his field, he is the author of the best-selling books ā€œThe Age Fix," "In Stitches," and ā€œPlaying God.ā€ His public television special, The Age Fix with Dr. Anthony Youn, has been viewed by millions. Dr. Youn also hosts the popular podcast The Holistic Plastic Surgery Show. He is the most followed plastic surgeon on social media, with over 4.5 million subscribers on his YouTube Channel and 8 million followers on TikTok. His new book, ā€œYounger for Lifeā€ is a complete holistic guide to turning back the clock using the process of AutojuvenationĀ®.

I learned an awful lot today on this podcast and hope you do too.

Re: Toxic sunscreen. I have light Asian skin like you. At an outdoor summer wedding I sat next to my cousin who is very white complected. We sat in full sun, and I could not understand why my skin burned, but hers did not. I had been avoiding sunscreen because of the toxins. She wasnā€™t wearing sunscreen either. I was wearing sunglasses and she was not. A few months later, I ran across an article that explained how UV light enters the eye, telling the brain to produce melanin to protect the skin! That made sense to me, so I stopped wearing sunglasses which trick the brain into thinking ā€˜itā€™s safe, you donā€™t have to protect yourself! Whenever I was in the sun, which was a lot, gardening and outdoors all summer, I purposelessly would not wear sunglasses. Now, I get a beautiful, deep tan with zero burning! The only time I wear sunglasses is if Iā€™m in driving, in the shade, or only for a moment if Iā€™m trying to see something in bright sun. What an epiphany!

Good show. Fascinated that the doctors point out that you can tell a personā€™s lifestyle by looking at them. Years ago I sat at a food counter in a restaurant and the man next to me (who I did not know), was an MD. An ER doctor. We got to speaking of health. He said he could tell by looking at a patient how much they drink. I said ok, how much do I drink? He literally guessed the exact number of drinks I had a week. While it wasnā€™t excessive, it was routine. I had 3 small glasses of wine per week. Every week. I was shocked. I said ā€˜how do you know that??ā€™ He said by looking at your skin and your eyes. I decided right then and there to quit my wine. To this day Iā€™m still just blown away by his accuracy.
  • the fact he brings up that story of a patient dying is applaudable for me, he runs the risk of people blaming it on him , and viewing him in a negative light, but for the purpose to get his message of realization across and tell it how it is, he tells that story anyway. and i think thats how it should be. so many times people hide certain facts for the fear of being unjustly judged, and it causes more damage than it does good

Fasting - releasing trapped emotions constantly - doing what you love with who you love ā¤

Never smoked, very little alcohol, always had a healthy diet, used sunscreen, I exercise regularly- I've done everything right and plastic surgeons distroyed my looks! I had fillers that migrated and after having some of it disolved, I developed an autoimune response that manifested with muscle athrophy, skin thinning, joint pain, loss of volume in my hands and many more. My whole life has been affected in my 30s and I have been trying to heal this damage for the past 4 years.

I love dr Youn. He has such a positive energy and beautiful aura šŸ˜Š
  • I definitely agree with the sugar thing. I have had a few periods in my life where I have managed to completely eradicate sugar (including 'white' carbs) from my diet and my skin has looked amazing. With me it can't be any other thing because I don't use make-up or creams (including sun tan lotion, I cover up instead, long sleeves, trousers and hats and don't go out in the midday sun) and never wash my face with soap, just water. Currently my skin looks terrible because I spent the last six months being cruel to myself, eating loads of sweets, cakes and other rubbish but that has finally stopped. Fortunately, at least I don't drink pop, only peppermint tea and water so that helps a bit. The intermittant fasing is also brilliant - best bit is how the excess fat falls off all the right parts of the body the ones that never seem to shift when doing regular calory counting diets. Thank you gentlemen for sharing such an informative video.

One of my former coworker years ago looked 10 years younger when she quit smoking.

This whole 'anti aging' message that is so common in our culture is so incredibly toxic and needs to end. Aging is normal, taking care of yourself the best way you can with a positive mindset, healthy eating, physical activity, meditation, proper supplementation etc goes a long way in looking and feeling your best!
  • @loucherobim3617
Beauty needs to come from the inside out. Great interview. Thank you both!

We express a lot of emotions through our faces like joy, laughter. I want to enjoy life and express my emotions thru my face. I am ok with having some wrinkles not too many.
  • Im 75 and never had a Dr of any kind for years! No smoking etc ever! Avid exercise! Living in a high stress area is hard on ones health Still running biking and dancing! ! Never thought to have a face lift! Seemed a waste of time as i look at my peer group! My skin is great because of good diet and life style! ! I was doing the right things without realising it!
  • I'm sad about the number of people I've mentioned intermittent fasting and autophagy to who were either worried about me, said that I was crazy or said that they could never do that. Most of these people are younger than my children, I'm 74, and have more self-inflicted health issues than I've ever dreamed of. Sometimes, actually often, I have to remind myself, it's their business not mine. Thanks for this video! ā˜®ļøšŸ’žšŸ™

I started supplementing for many reasons due to menapause to avoid HRT, I was stunned at the effect on my skin, its radiant, glowing and fresh. I thought the days of good skin were history, pleasantly surprised.
  • @chazzeethomas
When I started eating OMAD, I lost 35 lbs in 2 months. At that time, no one commented on my weight loss, but several people commented on my skin. I didn't notice it because I saw myself every day. My daughter-in-law actually tried to touch my face. That was weird.

I am happy I discovered both Dr. Perlmutter, and Dr. Youn--I am a 67 yr old who is trying to stay out of the doctor's office. Thank you. I will check out more videos
  • @NatalieCWilliams
There are few excellent doctors like Dr. Youn. So so glad I found his channel when I did.
  • @rochellet7303
Thank you so much for this interview, Dr. Perlmutter and Dr. Youn. I love that you focused on the foundation of good skin care (and autophagy!) and not the procedures. You both are clearly well-read and answered questions that a lot of "experts" don't. Thank you !
