In an historic first, Canada has won silver in the thrilling women's Olympic beach volleyball final. The powerhouse duo from Toronto shone as they took on top-ranked Brazil. It's the first time Canada has reached the podium in the event. Crystal Goomansingh has more.

There's been a deadly aviation tragedy in Brazil, after a passenger plane carrying 61 people crashed, killing everyone on board. The aircraft's shocking last moments were caught on camera by witnesses as it plummeted to the ground. As the country grieves the dead, many have questions about what happened. Neetu Garcha has more.

Residents of Montreal were hammered by heavy rain and flooding as post-tropical storm Debby arrived in Canada. The city received more rain in one day than what's expected for the entire month of August. As Heidi Petracek reports, the storm left a trail of destruction in the U.S. and is now headed for Atlantic Canada.

Plus, Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell is tracking Debby's path, including the massive amount of rain that's falling on Eastern Ontario and Southern Quebec.

With Canada's immigration at record high, concerns are growing about the struggle to absorb the increasing population. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has hounded the Liberal government over its handling of the issue. Mackenzie Gray reports on how a potential Tory government would deal with the hot political topic.

In the ever-worsening crisis in the Middle East, Ottawa is telling Canadians to leave the region as soon as possible. On Friday, Israel launched yet another attack on Gaza in the southern city of Khan Younis. The Israel Defense Force (IDF) says it's looking for dug-in Hamas militants in the area. But the top prize is the newly-appointed Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, whom Israel believes is hiding somewhere in the myriad of tunnels Hamas has dug under Gaza. Bianca Facchinei reports.

Athletes at the Paris Olympics are competing in 32 different sports. But away from the venues, tourists have unofficially created another competition: collecting memorabilia. Some pins and souvenirs are so sought-after that it's created its own frenzy. Crystal Goomansingh has more on the Olympic memories that even the non-athletes get to take home.

Congrats to the Canadian 🇨🇦 women's beach volleyball team! But no one will give the Chinese Olympic team any respect because of its state-sponsored doping.

They should have won the first set. They were ripped off when they had set point and Brazil clearly carried. It was just wrong

The man who won the gold in women's boxing is a man, it's not a "misconception"
