  • Found this video 2 years ago for a fishing trip. The spray worked so well that now I was searching for this video again cause Mosquitos are so bad right now. Stuff REALLY works, and smells good, THank you so much!!!

I love this! I am a chemist and I want to let you know DONT put essential oils in plastic bottles. They will react with the plastic. Some of those reaction products could be worse for you than the products on the shelf!! And protected from light is much better as well!! Light breaks those essential oils down

Witch Hazel 1/2 cup Vodka/Alcohol 1 Tablespoon 1/2 cup water Vegetable glycerine 1 teaspoon 30 drops bergamot oil 30 drops cedar oil 10 drops ea of lemon, eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary oil.
  • I would suggest using a dark colored glass bottle so that the essential oils dont go bad! Thank you so much for giving us these tips!!

Just a FYI: bergamot and lemon are both citrus oils that will make your skin hyper reactive to UV rays. People have gotten very serious burns this way. Citronella, contrary to what the name suggests, is not from a citrus fruit, so that's fine. I would leave those two out of the recipe if you plan to be wearing this bug repellant on sunny days. Instead of the bergamot, use geranium, like WellnessMama, and instead of the lemon, try lemongrass essential oil, which also has bug repellent properties. The other option is to go ahead and use the citrus oils, and then just spray your bug spray on your clothes and not your skin. If you're going to do that, you could even add some pennyroyal oil, which is a powerful bug repellant, but too strong for skin. Maybe leave out the glycerine, which isn't great for some fibers. Those are my thoughts, hope they're helpful!
  • I watched both your videos on this recipe. Made up a batch and the first night I used it over at my neighbors house. We all sat out by the pool and not a single bite. Smells great. Now my Mom who lives in the woods uses this recipe and I've even given a travel bottle to a fellow gardener. Thanks from deep in the heart of Texas!
  • I got lost when I heard that vodka is needed but then relaxed after I heard that only one spoon will be wasted

đź’ś I have used essential oils for many years, this is a great recipe however one should always use glass bottles as the oils can have a reaction releasing chemicals from the plastic which can degrade your oils. Also some oils are photosensitive and should not come in contact with your skin if you are going to be in the sun. Thank you for sharing đź’ś

Back when I was in the U.S. Marine Corps, we used Skin So Soft as a bug repellent. It works amazingly good.

Mosquitoes LOVE me! Just bought the ingredients and can’t wait to try this. Thank you for posting the recipe and links! UPDATE: This works so well!!! Not a single bite and smells good. This has been literally life changing for me!

To eliminate mosquitos, fill 5 gallon pail 1/2 water. Buy floating mosquitos donuts at the hardware store. Float one in the water. This will not only kill the mosquitos but the eggs as well. Put out several buckets to cover large area and enjoy your outdoors.

New sub! Love that you put the recipe in the notes.

Thank you so much! I made a batch using the ingredients I had on hand and it really works. Excited to purchase the additional oils and share the vlog with family and friends.

Skin so soft from Avon with Lavender oil mixed in it works well too, Ive used it my whole life. Thanks mom!
  • Hello this is awesome. I have most of the essential oils and I do have everything else. Will be making some this week because we are starting to get up in the 80's again. Thank you for writing the recipe in the description box. God bless stay safe and have a wonderful day
  • Thanks Rachel! I've been wanting to find a homemade recipe. I will try this in the Spring :)
  • @gearyb9870
I live in the Tropics on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Right now it's rainy season when there are lots of mosquitoes. I discovered a few years ago that if I dab lavender essential oil on strategic spots on my arms and legs that it alone keeps mosquitoes away. It works much better than commercial products and doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy. While I don't doubt the benefits of the spray recipe presented in this video, essential oil can be expensive, especially if you are using so many different types. I just make sure the lavender essential oil is the real thing and not a synthetic product.
  • Don’t leave that in your garden in that plastic bottle. If exposed to the sun it should be in a dark glass bottle but I wouldn’t leave it in the sun at all.
  • @missteach9853
