As a avid Fujifilm shooter, I'm always intrigued by how other camera brands measure up, especially when it comes to color science. Today, we're taking a closer look at the Sony A7CII in 2024 to see how it stacks up in terms of color accuracy and overall performance. While color science is just one facet of a camera's capabilities, it can profoundly impact the outcome of your photographs.

Throughout this review, we're going to get into the strengths and weaknesses of the Sony A7CII, examining its colors, image quality, and key features that contribute to its appeal. Whether you prioritize precise color rendering or have other criteria in mind when selecting a camera, this video aims to provide valuable insights to guide your decision-making process.

I upgraded to the A7CII from the FujiXT3. I was tired of missing focus when taking pictures of my young kids. With the Sony I never miss. I really enjoy the switch, the battery lasts a lot longer than the XT3 battery, focus is amazing and its a bit smaller with full frame as a major bonus. My only issue is with the menu, its taking me some time to get used to it. I just got an X100VI and not sure if I will keep it, its smaller than the A7Cii but not by much.

Been shooting the A7Cii for a week or so.. I do love that 33 sensor. Goldilocks. Iā€™m taking it with 40 2.5, 20 1.8 and an X100VI to London in a week. One of these bodies ā€˜needsā€™ to go but I just donā€™t know which one. I love the Fuji but then I zoom in on some images from that 33 sensorā€¦

Love your reviews. I end up thinking of buying something new every time. Considering this or the X-T5 to move on from my X-S20 (more the X-T5). Keep up the good work.

I have the a7cii and the x100v. Best of both worlds

I agree with several of your point. I actually ended up selling my X-T5 and only really miss the Fuji film simulations. Aside from that I like the Sony A7cII especially with the silver top and silver small rig base plate. I use mine with the Sony small primes, Sony 24mm F2.8, 35mm F1.8 and 55mm F1.8. Those lenses are small enough and give you a really nice look. The A7Cii with those lenses is a lot smaller than the X-T5 with the F1.4 lenses. The other benefits for me is that I also have a Sony A7RV so the negatives don't really affect me considering I'd use that for real important photo projects.
  • I used to own a Fuji X-T4 and was considering upgrading to the newer model. But, for me, the X-T5 and the X-H2 should have been one and only camera. Imagine the X-H2 with retro dials. Wouldn't it be awesome! So, as a 70 year old guy with failing eyesight and shaky hands, I decided to give Sony a try. I bought the A7RV and then the A7CII (the blacker the better) and a few lenses. Needless to say, my budget hasn't recovered yet. But let me tell you, Sony's AF makes shooting so much fun and the image quality is amazing. The only thing missing to my total happiness would be if Sony made a good quality full frame autofocus pancake lens. I would stop desiring a Fuji X100VI. In the meantime, the A7CII paired with both Sony's 40 and 24 G lenses, does the job pretty well. These 2 lenses are compact and make the A7CII a great option for street and travel photography. All of this could change if and when Sony releases a new RX1RIII.

I have the a7Cii upgraded from the mk1 and I also have the xt5. The Sony is my work horse. The xt5 is my edc. Love them both
  • Thank you for your honest opinion and review. Great sample images. More features means lager body. I had shot with Canon, Nikon, Fuji and Panasonic. Now I have the Sony 7Cii and is a dream camera specially paired with 35 and 55 Sony/Za lenses. I love Sony colors. I know what people say but we do not percieve colors the same. They are always individual differences not only in our eyes but in our brains.

I spent last months thinking if this camera worth switching from Fuji to Sony. I ended up buying 2 new lenses for Fuji šŸ˜…

I don't miss the joystick, i use real tracking with the shutter button, focus and recompose, and button recall option on the "Af on" button with Wide focus Ɣrea and eye autofocus for portraits and Kids ( eye autofocus option on "Af on" don't focus if there is no eye.
  • @andrewjune
Great video! Are you able to test out the new firmware for Fuji 16-55 & 18-120 that supposedly fixed the exposure changes while zooming?
  • When you think of this camera you should compare it more against the X-E3 or X-E4 which also have only one card slot and the smaller EVF. I had the X-E3 and sold it after getting this camera. Also, which Viltrox lens did you use?
  • @DaveDialect
I'm still keeping an eye out for a good deal on the first version, or maybe even an a7III šŸ˜
  • Hey, I was interested in purchasing your cinefeels preset pack. This would be my first time buying any preset packs. I was wondering if they came with specific instructions on how to best use them. I have an XT5. Should I have certain settings to get the most out of the presets? Should I shoot raw? How much tuning do I need to do personally in order to get the best look? Thanks!
  • @MrRafalEn
I moved away from Fuji after 6 years to Canon R8. Now I have fantastic AF which never misses my kids, great low light, DR in high contrast scenes makes much more difference than I assumed in the beginning as well. Colors, handling and menus are also much better in my opinion on Canon but I am looking hardly at A7CII because of this compact rangefinder body. I am just afraid that Sony colors and really bad lcd / evf will ruin experience for me. Too bad that Fuji is refusing to release X-Pro4 or X-E5 but even then I doubt I will come back after tasting full frame and that god like AF.
  • @Toft64
How do you experience the difference in RAW files between the X-T5 and A7CII? Iā€™m personally always shooting in RAW but I donā€™t want to spend all my time fixing colours in post. Thanks for the review šŸ™
  • You can easily get an external battery charger for Sony batteries. Amazon has a ton of them.
  • @PeterLeary
Fuji's decision to ignore the xpro users, leaving me with the feeling that there will be no xpro4 is very disappointing. For the first time in years, I have started shopping for a different brand of camera. A big part of my decision is compactness, I don't like being weighed down with gear. This probably stems from being around Leica M shooters in my early years. True, the lenses can get big with most full frame setups but there plenty of reasonably sized options for Sony. The only thing that's kept me from pulling the trigger is that my past experience with Sony left me cold, a great camera but not an inspiring one. After watching this maybe it's time to rent one for a test drive.

fuji's implementing touch tracking in x-h2s and x-s20 (i think another one, too?) in next few months. finally :D. there was a cined (i think) announcement on this recently.
