I am so grateful both my dad and mom are separated, but still love us and provide a nice Christmas. Not lavish but there’s presents and there’s food and there’s family. Glad to grow up in the right family in an area where there aren’t a lot of those

I had the other type of divorce where the parents are both passive aggresively trying to out do the other in presents. When I was young obviously I was like oh sick! When I got older I was like ya'll need to stop. My mom was more financially well off and my dad kept trying to go ham with the toys for me and my half brother. Eventually they must've had like a sit down moment without me because suddenly things became much more tame and my mom started even getting gifts for my half brother and started having him over too. Eventually he was basically just her second son who lived in a different place lol, she loved having him over. Now knowing both of their historys with each other and the fact my half brother was like only a year and a half younger than me I can kind of understand the salt between the two. It really showed how everything gradually had become closer between everybody and mended when my half brother passed away a couple years ago. My mom offered so much help to my dad's side of the family and my step mom during the whole thing. Divorces are wild ya'll, you get some super fucked ones and then you get ones like mine that are really glaringly toxic at first and then eventually seem to heal a bit. Then you have some that just are rather amicable right off the bat but I have to imagine those are pretty rare.
