Why did we create the word "lobbying" when "bribing" already existed?

I was initially shocked when this story got virtually zero attention from major media sources. Then I saw a massive Exxon ad on the homepage for Politico and remembered that fossil fuels pay their bills too.

It was always funny to me how “lobbying” was described a good thing considered it is just a plain and simple form of corruption

These guys truly are criminally insane. They know for sure that we are heading off the cliff, taking all of us with them (including their own children), and they fight to make sure that nobody steps on the brakes.

it's crazy as a concept that denying a statement on twitter is the furthest degree that companies need to go to defend themselves against controversies.

I just stumbled onto your video. 6 MONTHS later. I've never heard of this story. The most heartbreaking part is they essentially say, "we own the senators" and then the conclusion is, "go write to your senator." We've already lost. I'm so heartbroken.

It's always interesting to see corporate shakedown so clearly laid out. People always look at it in terms of "this senator is getting checks from this corporation", but more often it's "this person is up for reelection and it's be a shame if their competitor had a lot more ads airing"

Exhibit A for why corporate lobbying of Congress needs to be outlawed – we can start at the state level by prohibiting our senators and house reps from accepting lobbying / dark money contributions.
