Both versions are fucking amazing. I love Majora's Mask so much, but to see it made to look more colorful where it should be more colorful and and darker where it shouldn't is so amazing. The updated shading and models are phenomenal and the slight gameplay differences turn out to be a godsend in the long run. The updated music and hud couldn't be better and the atmosphere is driven home harder than it ever has before. They manage to take the perfect game and somehow made it better. We're all entitled to our own opinions, though. There are many purists who prefer the Nintendo 64 version for their own reasons. I'd say that to each his own, and discussions of this topic should remain as civilized the lord intended discussions on Zelda remasters to be.

To all those "the 64 art looks more dark than the 3ds one" or ppl who miss the atmosphere: No its not. Sorry, to say that like this. Just get rid of your rose-tinted retro-glasses. Most of you all were a lot younger as you played MM. Ive played it as I was 8. An eight year old boy experience things way different and even scarier than the 22 yr old one I am now. If I see the old graphics I remember my feelings and the experience as I played it. If I see the remake I dont have those feelings. So yes: It feels less scary. But not because Nintendo fucked it up, but because we grew older. You dont believe it? Look at... 3:18 -> Pause it there, is the N64 darker? 3:46 -> Same question 6:09 -> You really think that a square-hallway has more artmosphere than the mysterious path? 6:31 -> "Oh wow, the N64 is sooo much darker" Please guys. Seperate your retro-feelings from the facts. Nintendo did EVERYTHING right: They made more detailed graphics and textures. They added Details that even werent in the original. They didnt changed the Gameplay. They added extra Content. A remake wouldnt be necassary if they would just release the Emulator version with a texture mod. Calm your tits and be happy that there is a publisher who listens to his fans.

The colour palette in the new one is lovely though. And while some people think it's not dark enough, many environments have a deep purple tone with some yellow to highlight some spots. And the designs on the buildings in clock town and the spider houses are so mesmerizing, it's bewildering to see people stubbornly saying that the n64 graphics are better.

You guys finally got the Majora's Mask remake on the 3DS you literally begged for, and now that it happened, you guys can't stop complaining. This is a joke, you people are too much.

The fog was because the n64 couldn't handle the game without it

I was sad when I heard we wouldn't get a Wii U remake... but man, the 3DS version sure looks great! :)

as someone who never played MM (nor OOT). i have to say the N64 one looks way creepier than the 3DS, i think those colors suit better the dark tone of the game. BTW no nostalgia glasses here. i was a SEGA and SONY fanboy
  • Nintendo didn't ruin a dark atmosphere, the HAD to make the 64 games foggy to prevent lag... Omfg these fanboys.

who else thinks this would make a great movie? they've already dramatized it with the excellent mangas, all they'd need to do is develop a script around them.

Other than Deku Link looking a little less wooden and more like a piece of smoothed, fired clay, I am happy with the new graphics overall.
  • I don't know why but seeing the N64 version I'm still satisfied. Like I'm still willing to play it! As if it's still looks amazing today even though it doesn't!

This comment section brought to you in part by Nostalgia Goggles, ruining people's ability to enjoy new things since the dawn of time! No really I am amazed people complain for years that there is no remake, then complain when they get such an amazing remake, just look at all this!  It looks so good!

I love how they've made the game even darker at some points, but also added a lot of colors and detail to others. The inside of the clocktower looks way darker and scarier, but at the same time, Termina now has a much more colorful look, which makes it so much more pretty !!! AND OMG THAT MOONSHINE IN THE OPENING SEQUENCE Just so much more artistic and fits the mood. The only complain I have is that the old clock design did look cooler, although , it's forgivable since the new one works better, so perfect game, 10/10 IGN
  • To everyone complaining, they didn't make the game easy, they only made saving more usefull, and made it a better game for a handheld, the main game is almost untouched

the smoothness of the 3ds version kind of weirds me out. I'm so used to being able to actually pick out the frames while I'm playing majoras mask.

I gotta say, they made the Happy Mask Salesman's smile a lot more unsettling

Real talk, does anyone else like how gloomy the N64 version looks, but likes how the 3DS version has updated models and a higher framerate? (at least to my eyes, a higher framerate)
