395 is definitely one awesome highway

I appreciate your videos, which allow us to see our country. Thank God for truckers.
  • @bactanite
I had no idea how beautiful Eastern California really is. The area from Bishop to Mono Lake would be great place for a vacation.
  • A real shout out to you and all the trucking heroes in this Corona virus crisis-youre the true backbone of this country and we're truly thankful for all that you do 🙏🏼🙏🏼

I've taken many road trips through the Eastern Sierra. If you ever get a chance to drive on 120 through Yosemite AND 395 through the Eastern Sierra, DO IT! You will see some of the most majestic scenery ever. It's like another world out there.
  • Wow, always great stuff on this channel. I like to relax and view on my big screen T.V. in the evening, along with a beer or cocktail, or both ;-) Thank you!

So glad I found your channel! I ran produce for Double R Transport back in the early 90's till '97, Much of the routes you're running, before cell phones with paper logbooks. I loved it! All I had were pictures and memories. Your videos bring it back to life for me. Thank you so much!! Safe travels my friend!
  • I'm enjoying this, Mike. I am still catching up on your earlier posts. This is gorgeous countryside. Thanks for sharing.

That's a road that made me feel very small. And I liked that feeling.
  • I love your mountain and canyons videos because I love the mountains. I'm a mountain girl born and raised and I "m stuck in flat land of Florida. It's ok but I will forever be a mountain girl.

Hiya Mike,Sherry here from Indiana. Just wanted to let you know how much I have been enjoying your ride alongs✌❤
  • One of the best moments is watching these utube videos of cross country whether it's 18wheelers, motorcycles, automotive even pickup trucks, it's better than National Geographic, when I was a kid back in the 50s and early 60s I even loved taking 2 or 3 day trips on just traveling wherever on a Greyhound Bus.

We have got to get out there. I have learned so much from you. My perspective on truckers has totally changed. Big respect for you.

On of your best among many great ride-a-longs!! Thanks for the narration on Bodie and Mono Lake. Sometimes I forget interesting facts about the High Sierras. Loved the pictures of the boulders towards the end before hitting the Bodie turn off - great visual evidence of what was once the Tioga glacier which covered much of the area 11 to 20 thousand years ago. Mono Lake reveals the recent history of climate change and is famous (among nerds and scientists) for its core samples which have been used to recreate precipitation variations on 3 different geological time scales: Dansgaard-Oeschger (approximately a 1,000 year cycle), Heinrich events (varying repetition due to interactions with other causes), and Milankovich (approximately 10,000 year cycle). The latter was hypothesized by a Serbian astronomer, Milutin Milanković about 100 years ago. He hypothesized that variations in the Earth's "eccentricity", or axial tilt and the precession of the Earth's orbit around the Sun led to a cyclical variation in the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth, and that this orbital forcing strongly influenced climatic patterns on Earth (that is was a contributing factor to ice ages and glaciation and global cooling). Your intellectual curiousity about the areas you driver through reminds me of my own day driving back in the 80s. It was a lonely life for a single guy in his 20s but it was also a really interesting job because no two days were ever the same and I went everywhere and saw everything and like you, I knew where to find a meal or park in lots of little towns around the country. Even today, many years later, I can recall in great detail so many of my epic and scenic drives like they were yesterday. If I had been driving in a Volvo with those fantastic comfortable seats, I might have kept it up, but honestly, it was impossible to maintain relationships with girls when I was gone so much although some of my best trips involved bringing a girl friend with me on the road - although it was sometimes more peaceful and less stressful not to have to stop and shop in every little tourist town - it was still the most interesting job offering the most flexibility of any job I ever had. People who work in offices with direct supervision through out the day just do not understand the near absolute freedom of the open road to be their own boss (in regard to how you go about doing the job) and how certain people excel at such a job and cannot be micromanaged - like cowboys, truck drivers are a breed apart and unlikely to ever be happy working a normal 9 to 5 even when kids and wife force a career change on them. Nothing beats the feeling of saddling up and riding off to adventure by yourself. I found the nights to be the worst part - sleeping trucks without a dog or cat was lonely and the solitude is okay for a week but if you end on the road for several weeks in a row and cannot get home for R&R and laundry, it can get tiresome. Many people think truck drivers are just working stiffs, but most try and stick with the job because they just really don't fit in with a normal office job or factory job doing the same thing every day. Keep up the great videos with the interesting narration.
