A guy like this wouldn't be able to speak at a university today.

I was swayed by a leftist in high school.  Now, years later, I'm waiting for a book of Thomas Sowell to come in the mail.  Individual freedom is important, my fellow citizens. We need to respect our fellow man, and not coerce, but persuade, unlike the coercive leftists.
  • I would love to have enough money to place this whole lecture by Friedman on television just prior to the HitlaryTrump debates. Maybe I should crowd source...

I could listen to Friedman all day; literally! I love how plain and simply Friedman can put things, so that we can explain it to others easily, or share his speeches. Friedman often goes into the simple principles behind "force" in his speeches; even when the speech may be about drugs, capitalism, welfare. I wish more people were aware of the ethics of using force. And were aware that we are using force to a great extent in the us.

Capitalism is THE honest system for honest people. People who are honest about themselves are Capitalists, because they don't claim to have other's interests in mind. That's an honest person.  As Milton said "I should run away as far as possible from the man who tells, and truly believes, that he has my best interest in mind!". Also just because a person has their own interests in mind doesn't mean he is incapable of caring about someone else. He must care about someone else to survive, and it's in HIS BEST interest to care about others. But to form a system in which you ask people to put others' interest above yours, that's crazy.

The reason I give when they ask me why I favor Capitalism over Socialism/Collectivism is simple:  Socialism ASSUMES that men, given power over other men, will not use that power for their own gain.  It assumes that men's hearts are not corruptible.  Capitalism DOES assume that man is imperfect and "capitalizes" on it.  It uses that self-interest to it's advantage and there really is no way for one to gain over another without coercion.  Which happens anyway no matter if there is a form of government or not.  Capitalism, in it's true form, minimizes the advantage gained of one over another and forces one to gain advantage, through MUTUAL benefit, over many others.  Only when government is inserted into an economy is there a rise in corruption on a large scale.  When the government comes in and says "this must happen and this must happen." Then there comes the ability for those who have profited greatly to use their money to gain advantage, through MEN in government, over everyone all at once.

I wish he were still alive today. It would be awesome to see Milton take on Bernie Sanders

GM was a mistake to bail out. An inefficient company like that NEEDS to collapse, give way to other competitors to take market share and compete..and then let GM recover. Milton, i think, said a great deal about this too. Let's not take action appealing to our emotions; let's not think of pride but of competition and efficiency. Tyranny for the good of the people may be the worst, but that is only because it is done with the approval of the man's own conscience, and is therefore endless - Lewis
