Coaching v Consulting - a coach is one that asks the pertinent questions at the right time in the right order to facilitate the clients journey towards their goals. To be a great coach you listen carefully and applying a critical analysis approach you prompt the client to ask themselves the right question and reach for themselves for the answers. As a consultant you use your knowledge, skills, and experience to provide your client with the solutions that they need for their business to solve a particular problem or realise improved performance. With the coaching role it is primarily questioning skills that are required and can be learnt (hence a person of any adult age can coach). Whereas a person who wants to be a consultant MUST be able to provide the solution for the business client, that's why many consultants are paid more than coaches IMHO :)

Thanks for that, Rob! Very interesting as was the first one I watched where you gave out advice regarding cash management. Lovin it and I will now watch your vid on Marketing. However, before I go on I'd just like to say a word about marketing. I'm interested in working with start-ups and nurturing them to scale up and transitioning past the three chasms they may well face. Given that I have solutions learnt from my own experience and self directed research I feel I need to learn more on how to engage with people who need my service. Now you mention product range and I think that maybe a way to engage with them initially by offering a 'free' initial business analysis that will show them where they are at the present time and then prompt them as to clarifying where they wish to go as a goal or set of goals. Simply thinking and writing as a stream of consciousness. It's important for me to clarify this for myself as I don't want to waste my ad spend.

Hi, I have 30 years experience in business and worked as a GM for almost the last 10 years. I recently got an executive MBA online degree from an American business school. Due to economic status and my age is 53 yrs, I have difficulties to find a job, so do you think I can start my consulting business? , given that I live in Egypt and I can serve GCC booming markets. Besides my education degrees, I have good soft skills and communication skills.

Thanks The last intersection of all circles also needs to be elucidated. Thanks in advance
  • Thanks a lot for the great advice. This is really important for us new startup consultants. I have two questions though. How to price my services in a competitive space particularly when I am just starting. Is it advisable to approach my former employer to offer consulting services to them when I left on a good record?
