Bill Duke spoke to VladTV about being the first person in his family to go to college and questioning his views on racism after his school's president paid for his books, room, and food for his stay at Boston College. He also spoke about his parents wanting him to become a doctor and later an English teacher, but he couldn't walk away from acting after catching the bug.

  • Everyone needs to realize that there are good people and bad. That's it.

I like how he is honest enough to say he was racist toward whites, there is a ton of it now, but people act like you can't be racist if you are black. It isn't a one way road, all races can be racist that is facts. Trying to change the definition of racism just shows that most people are ok being racist, but not ok if it comes their way.

Im tearing up with him. I’m so glad someone helped him out financially for room and board. I love all the movies he has done. Such an amazing person :)
  • I always really liked Bill Duke in anything I've seen him in, but he's clearly a very refined and well-rounded "guy's guy", like the kind of dude you want to go have a cigar & bourbon with for several hours and just hear his stories.

Start judging people by their character not their color. Scum comes in every color and honorable people come in every color. Color does not make the man or woman, the person they are does.

Mr Duke was a passenger in my Taxi in Vancouver, Canada in the late '80s and being a fan of the Predator movie recognized him right away!!!! He was very nice, we talked about that movie and why he was in Vancouver etc. It was a short trip so I decided not to charge him, but he still insisted on tipping me which he did so generously!!!! A Real Gentleman!!!

I can't imagine what it must have been like to live through that as a child. I pray that our country doesn't not fall into this kind of atrocity again. It sometimes feels like the government is pushing for a revival of this kind of separation. It's pretty damn disheartening.
  • The irony is evil hates all mankind. But we as humans still feed the hate that we could have let starve.

The dry shave scene in Predator: one of the most tension-filled, bad-ass scenes in action movies.

Judge a man by his actions, not his credentials.

My coworker (who happened to be black) some years ago found out I was broke after having to get my car fixed. I had no food, couldn't pay my rent, I was financially in a really bad situation. He asked me to come over to his place after work one morning, so I went to his place. His mom had made a huge breakfast and they invited me to eat with them. I was so surprised at that alone. Then before I left, she gave me a huge box full of pasta, canned food, etc. and that really hit me hard. I was getting ready to leave and got in my car, my co-worker came running out and gave me 200 dollars. I will never forget that and I keep in contact with him to this day. Sadly, his mother passed away shortly after. She was an amazing woman. I was never racist to begin with but it definitely gave me a new hatred toward ignorant assholes.
  • What a fantastic true story!!! I’m white and my oldest friend is black and we’ve been through some tough times and always had each others’ backs. It’s all about the morals of the individual....

I went to Dutchess Community College from ‘03 to ‘07 , and I’ll never forget this story. I remember seeing and hearing that Bill Duke went there and was a performing arts major (sadly never met him) Im a big fan of menace and saw get rich or die trying in theaters excited he was in it. Anyways, I was struggling the first couple years and I took this social issues class in 04, 05. I struggled in that class and the professor totally concerned about me. I had an F mid semester, and she told the Bill Duke story to me about his situation and what his professor did for him, that inspired me to pass the rest of my social issues tests and finished the semester with a C. And it led to improve my GPA up from 1.9 and finished with 2.7. Leading to my graduation in 2007. Thank you, for my social issues professor and the spirit of Bill Duke for the motivation and inspiration for me to accomplish a goal cherished to this day🙏🏾📜

"In those days you did what your parents told you to." It's almost as if having a mother and a father helps you succeed in life.
  • Beautiful example of people showing love & respect to each other, people need to realize we’re all human, we are all special and made unique by God!

He brought tears to mine eyes relaying his blessing upon him.
