I love Vinland Saga so much. This Manga made me cry so much that I needed tissues 😅

Wow, because I've been following Vinland for a long time I didn't remember that second chapter very well, but hearing you talk about it made the rest of the story more interesting! I'm definitely re-reading it after it ends, which should be pretty soon. Vinland Saga is probably on my top 3 manga of all time. The prologue is really just the beginning of a beautiful journey. Excited to hear your other thoughts on it, and because it's a shorter one (you're surviving One Piece, so this will be a piece of cake) and it's actually ending pretty soon, It's a great time to jump into it!

Fantastic choice, and perfect timing. The manga is nearing its ending so you'll be able to read fully through it without waiting very long. Very interested to see how your thoughts shift as the series goes on.

My favorite Askeladd quote from this section of the story: "A man, slave to gold, holds a whip... And beats the slave he bought with that gold as if to claim HE is the master. He just doesn't see it for himself. Every living human being is a slave to something." This is a quote i came back to time and time again when examining characters in the story. With some characters, it's obvious, and with others, it's more tricky. But I found that this idea that "everyone is a slave to something" was a fun lens to view the story through

Vinland Saga is so good

I never read the manga so I was pretty shocked at how much the anime added. It starts off with Thors fleeing from a battle then it skips to a few years later showing thors and thorfinn in their hometown in Iceland together with their family and all the events that lead to askeladd taking Thors’ life

Berserk, Vinland Saga, Vagabond are the big 3 of Seinen manga. All three of them had its own charms to read and of course they are for young adult consumption. After you taste Berserk and Vinland Saga, I hope you add Vagabond by Takehiko Inoue for your read list And for the honorable mention, I just catching up with the manga called Kingdom by Yasuhisha Hara. So if you also a fan of olden days warfare, the tale of king and general. This manga would fit your palate.

Merphy Napier and Philip Chase have good discussion series on Vinland Saga. I think they did them for each omnibus book. Chase has some knowledge of the original saga that the story is based upon.

I'm not a manga reader, but my daughter is and this might be right up her alley!

Knowing that nothing can be perfect, because we are flawed, so both the creation process and my own interpretation are flawed, Vinland Saga is still one of the handful of written works I subjectively qualify as a 10/10 (One Piece is also on that list). I'm an extremely character driven reader, btw, and you are in for a masterclass in character writing with Vinland Saga, starting with Askeladd.
