Yeah, booting out the UN peacekeepers (after an extended period of being as unhelpful as possible) and relying solely on Wagner Group war criminals was TOTALLY not a terrible idea, Malian military junta!
  • @fabrislemos
I had no idea this was happening. Thanks TLDR
  • One of the reasons Bamako were frustrated with France was that France was only willing to fight the jihadists and not the Azawad rebels and sort of twisted Bamako’s arm into agreeing to peace with them to focus on the jihadists. It’s very likely one of the reasons the junta chose to boot out France for Russia was because they knew the Russians would help against Azawad.

Russians have always better been suited to ballet than battle. They lost in a a day twice as many men as the French did in 10 years in mali. After their defeats in libya and Mozambique I can only imagine price is the main factor for african nations turning to them.
  • @DOSFS
So Russia failed on its promise for junta again? Shocking
  • @willgreen9861
Russians aren't exactly a martial people as we've seen in Ukraine.
  • @ajfcrew2858
Russia is just a tilted French flag (almost)
  • @nijadbahnam9859
This time around, France won't bail them no matter how much they beg .
  • @l.j.turner185
WOW, Russia failing to do something again??? Never!? 😱
  • @user-cs2mx4lt3q
a russian mercenary group trying to fight isis and al qaeda in the middle of africa isn't such a good idea in my opinion so yeah not surprising to me
  • @thepax2621
So... Does this mean that the new commander for Wagner is about to have an "airplane accident" as well? 🤔
  • Of course they were gonna fail. I’m glad these countries ditched France, but replacing them with Russia is arguably worse. I wish all outside powers could just leave Africa for good
  • @thepax2621
Its almost funny, that Mali thought that the russians, particulary "Wagner", are the more, I guess, "competent" colonizers 😅?
  • @ravenblood1954
Woah, you mean exchanging one colonial master for an even less powerful one results in the same problems but with worse results? Who know that relying on the military power of a nation currently engaged in a grueling large scale conflict for protection may lead to supply and support issues for military operations abroad xD
  • @akend4426
If the security situation in Mali continues to deteriorate like it currently is (which it most likely will) then the Junta may be forced to beg the UN to intervene again, or more humiliatingly, recognize the independence of Azawad.
