  • Take That are really special. They broke up, then in the early 2000s got back together again. Gained a whole new audience along with the original fans and are still hugely popular. They write their own music, stage amazing live shows. And they all pursue individual careers. Some of their songs are really iconic.

Take That still fills up stadiums now. They are currently on tour in UK and Europe. Take That performed at the Olympics Closing Ceremony 2012 in London.

"1990s? That's, like, old" .. aw, bless him.
  • RE Madness: No -they were a Ska group ...skin heads were originally aligned to ska music and were not racist! There is a full length documentary on this subject. Skin heads became something else later ... 'Bad Mannners' definitely had the taint of the skinhead racist vibe!

I don't know anyone in Britain that doesn't like Madness. Great fun writing and music.

The most remarkable thing about Take That is that in the 90s they were absolutely huge here in the UK and then after a 10year break reunited with new material and were as popular as they had ever been and still continue to this day although with only three members. Not many bands have reunited and continued where they left off.
  • “Is the Stone Roses well known in Britain?” 😂 Errr, just a bit mate.

These bands were very popular in Australia.. especially Madness, Take That, Stereophonics, The Jam and The Stone Roses.

The Take That boys tell the story that their agents lined up some Yanks who came over for a big meeting to plan launching them in the States, they went on for hours about this promotion and this event etc and eventually, when the boys were asked what they thought, apparently Howard paused and then said "Can't be arsed"! 😀 I think by that point they were hugely successful everywhere else and just didn't need the hassle. Doesn't seem to have done them any harm.

When Cold Chisel, much loved iconic band in Australia, were treated badly by the US music companies, they packed up and went back to Australia and recorded "You've Got Nothing I Want, You've Got Nothing I Need". How right they were!

Dare I say Thake That are way better than Nsync and The Back Street Boys? Just biased because I'm British and their shows and staging are amazing!
  • You should see Robbie Williams live at Knebworth singing Angels - his biggest hit. He was in Take That to start with. I think there were about 375,000 fans there. When Take That split up it was on the news as millions of young girls were distraught
  • For me, the British bands I loved were Jesus and the Mary Chain, Morcheba, Garbage, Everything but the Girl, Underworld, Basement Jaxx, Portishead and Massive Attack.
  • Growing up back in the 90s I had a general hatred for boybands, that included Take That. Can't really say I was too enthusiastic to hear they were reforming but they actually released some bangers and my respect for them went up.
  • Until now Take That had 12 number 1 songs and 9 number 1 albums, so yes, the US is missing out.
  • @ragnarkisten
This is funny because most of these bands are huge in Norway!
  • MADNESS have a cult following in the US. and they hold Comic Con type meetings , with everyone turning dressed as Madness record themes
  • Take That: childhood and adolescence of all Europeans!!! Not just the Brits. And readind the comments, also in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada and they are going in a Japan Tour so...
