Considering most of these are prussians i assume there was a large fight between prussian soldiers and the shamblers, runners, bombers, zappers, and igniters which probably happened recently because of Blucher's infection not fully turning him by the time the players arrive. This also means Officer Karl had seen most of his troops die and be killed off by the zombies and died to his own leader.
