As a non-American non-drummer I always thought 'getting cut' meant being kicked out of a team you were already on, not failing the audition/try-out in the first place
  • @razor1106
i got cut from every group i auditioned for and when i finally got contracted on snare for my age out i was still cut after the first rehearsal weekend. yeah that stung pretty bad LOL. i ended up getting good hands but i fell apart when we started playing on the move & i never got the experience of playing with a line outside of my high school. there isn’t always a happy ending and that’s just reality. best of luck to everyone else in future auditions! it’s over for this guy

I can confirm getting cut will make you a better person if you go about it the right way. At the beginning of the year, before indoor percussion and the online wgi circuit, I was working my ass off to get cymbals and after months of practicing cymbals wrong, I got cut and put on glock. There were some nights were I was just really pissed the whole practice. I’d get home, tell my mom I was doing good, then go in my room and cry. I was obnoxiously loud some nights at practice when playing. Then one night, it hit me. I’m a trumpet player normally, so I get to play decently loud most of the time, but glock is entirely different. It sits on the top of the balance triangle. Sure, I failed at getting cymbals, but I can’t let it hold me back. Glock may have sucked some nights, but it taught me a lot about music and knowing your place in the ensemble. It also humbled me. I’ve been open minded more and more since the season started and even up to now, and when I try for southwind, I’ll sure as hell be ready. Edit: also good luck other universe Eric

Eric, you’re simply not old enough to get into the old guard. And you need to start practicing fife. Do it. Fife really is the new chicken! Greetings from the Netherlands.

3:00 19/28 is only a 67.8%, not 69%, UNLESS you consider that he could be counting AGT. 20/29 = 69%, chicken man is advancing confirmed.

This similar thing happened to me. I just auditioned for tenor drums for Kansas State University’s drumline in May and I freaking nailed my audition, but unfortunately they only keep 6 tenors as opposed to 12 snares basses and cymbals and the other people who auditioned were on the tenor line last year. As a transfer student from another college I basically just got screwed even though I played it pretty much perfect.
  • @Ziabach
I friggin' love all the Banished Beyond references.
  • When are you going to tell the stories you mentioned in your “why I joined the United States Marine Corps” video?
  • @drumdude40
Thanks for the shoutout and mentioning "The Beat of a Differerent Drummer." I knew you played "Moments Later" but didn't remember "Rhumba for Gus." If you don't mind sending me the video (I couldn't find a link) I'd love to see it. Again, thanks for the great performances of my music...I appreciate it!!!!!!!!!!!
  • @SilverTheFlame
It’s true that you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take... I got cut a bunch from DCI lines and now I’m marching at Bluecoats. Perseverance, discipline, and patience will get you there.
  • @sparklymop
I auditioned for the Bluecoats in 2018 (for the 2019 season), and I got cut. I knew they were WAY above my skill level, as I was a self-taught Baritone player who had only been playing for a year. The important thing is that I put myself outside my comfort zone and went out and tried. You never know what's gonna happen. If you do get cut, then at least you've gotten a great experience out of the audition.
  • @Quadstriker
Played in a colonial style fife and drum corps in my teens, and to this day the sound of a rope tension drum gets me instantly emotional inside.
  • @derpyflirpy
I got my first practice pad and drumsticks today just because of you....i know that this comment is off topic but you bring me happiness which is hard for me to have since i play 5 instruments and hopefully 6 (the snare drum once i save enough money for it) but anyways have a good morning and thank you for the content you bring to this community.....!
  • @khersy
this was such a creative way to talk about rejection and your intro was cool!
  • @Eijzman
Good luck with your auditions in the alternate universe. I'm rooting for you!
  • @G60syncro
Expert Village lessons are the key!!
  • @RedDogMamaHD
It is thundering and lightening and I am sitting under an overhang with music playing from a restaurant so I am playing this video and cannot hear a thing! But I was here ... Very early ... But not first!
  • I got cut from Pacific Crest 3 times and now I'm a Drum Major at Crossmen. Getting cut can be good for you.
