Eloy is somehow like our (i am 27) generation's dave lombardo. He brings the latin vibes into metal. Since young he has done a magnificent job playing technical drums with samba and thrash.

I think that is the most impressive thing I've seen him do. He was so fast there, it seems like he gave up a little speed later in life in favor of hitting harder. ymmv

What he is playing there at 2:38 is a extremely complicate version of the Congolese sebene music (very popular in Africa and a part of Columbia). What a beast, by the exception of Larnell Lewis, very few western drummers manage this beat.

He brings such a cool latin vibe to metal in Sepultura. It was always their schtick, but Eloys rythms are at center in it.

Had the honor to catch one of his clinics in 2006 in Lafayette, LA. His mentor was Aquiles Priester. Craziest thing I remember was that he straight up said he spent WAY more time playing soccer than playing drums. Guy was a beast so young!
