Published 2022-04-27
Going on any vacation by yourself or alone can be scary! However, going on a solo cruise by yourself, is one of the easiest vacations you can take! I have done almost 100 solo cruises by myself and truly believe solo cruising is one of the best ways to vacation! When going solo on a cruise ship, you are part of a broader community of people on the cruise ship! Even Though you might be cruising solo, you always have the option to never be alone.

I cruised as part of a couple or group for years. After my first solo cruise, I decided I do not not want to go with anyone else after that. When I travel alone, I enjoy every day. I have noticed that couples and families who travel together tend to start arguing and complaining about/with each other around day-four of a cruise. That doesn’t happen to me as a solo. Every day is a joy! That is not to say that unpleasant things never happen on a solo trip. But even when I had food poisoning on a cruise in February, I had a great time. I didn’t have to worry that my rough days were interfering with the quality of a travel companion’s experience. I could just relax and take care of myself.

You're absolutely correct! Lost my sweet wife last year and sat around feeling blue. I took two cruises so far this year solo and did "anytime dining" in the MDR and met many happy people, made new friends, and forgot my sadness for awhile. Good advice my friend!

You never really feel alone cause there are soooo many ppl to talk to or just sit next to and strike up a conversation...I love it!

Very insightful! My wife passed about six months ago and we used to cruise and both loved it. I have been thinking of taking another cruise by myself, and thinking of just taking it to honor and remember her. You just gave me permission to do that. Thank you!

I like the ability to change my plans anytime, for no reason whatsoever, and not have to explain it to anyone. Love my wife but it's healthy to be in that mind space from time to time.

I just did my first solo on Wonder of the Seas earlier this month! I missed my husband being with me, but it was so freeing just doing what I wanted, when I wanted. I met really nice folks and was never bored or uncomfortable. Solo #2 booked for this fall!

I took my first solo cruise last month on Navigator and had the time of my life. Like you said, it was easy to meet people onboard with all the activities going on. I never felt alone even when I was alone. I’m excited for my next cruise in 16 days!

I have always traveled solo. My first cruise was in 1996, it was a perfect way to see different places and feel a little safer because i could go on excursions with others. I always make the same point when people ask why I travel alone, I always explain that I meet a ton of people because im not concentrating on the friends im with

Did not expect to cry when I started this video. I've gone on many cruises with my dad, the last one we went on together was 8 months ago. My dad passed away 7 months ago, and I've been thinking about going on a solo cruise but have been feeling hesitant. I searched "reasons to go on a solo cruise," and your video is the first one I saw. I don't know if this is a sign, but it definitely feels like one. 🥺
  • Have never been on a cruise, but have travelled solo for many years and, yes, it does free me up to do exactly what I want to do each day. Socially, one can chat with others, (or not), and have met couples or groups who are friendly, but I don't have to plan my day around other people.

  • @lucysmum1895
Brandon, I always travel alone, cruises or not. My Lucy doesn’t count but I take her with me every time I go away. Some people ask me who I go with and don’t understand why I do by myself. They’re lucky to have companions. Not only have I got many friends, the majority of women at my age still have family commitment. I envy them but feel sorry for at the same time. I also find most men about my age are attached so that there’s little chance to meet 1 of them. At least I don’t have to dress to impress them and am happy to eat at the buffet for my entire cruise.
