Well played! For the two versions of Charlier #2 study: Plastic : 0:22 Metal : 1:19 I find the sound a bit brighter with the metal mouthpiece, but this also depends on the mouthpiece shape, and also which mouthpiece the player is used to, since you'll gradually adapt to a mouthpiece to try to get "your" sound back. I had a similar difference with my new plastic trumpet, it was very dull at first, but now the sound is almost normal after a few hours played on it (it's not the plastic adapting, so it has to be me...)

This was very helpful. Thank you very much from Australia.

are those two the exact same design other than one being plastic? I was just wondering if it was the material, or the shape that made the bigger difference in tone change.
-
It seems the metal one has more bite and upper frequency than the plastic

You move the D slide effortlessly, either you got it really oiled up or you’re just very strong in your fingers. I struggle moving mine, I’ve got weak fingers or my slide is too tight or both.

Bad question: would it be better to have a metal mellophone mouthpiece or a plastic?
-
I assume this works for euphonium too, as long as you have a bigger mouthpiece

What was the title of the Jazz piece u played? :)

Sounds great! Can I ask what it was that you were playing the third time through after you played Etude 2 from the Charlier?
-
what is the black sleeve on your horn? is it to protect the finish, or something else?
