The Dales Way Day 4 - 81 Miles from Ilkley to Bowness-on-windermere.

On our final day of the Dales Way, we woke up early to a beautiful sunrise and thankfully, no condensation in our tents. I had a good night's sleep, unlike my hiking partner Iain, who wore all his clothes and froze all night. I couldn't help but make a joke about it, as I was nice and warm in comparison.

The weather was lovely and warm for our final day, and as we crossed over many farmers' fields, we were down to our t-shirts again. Along the way, we passed by some interesting places like the stunning views of Windermere, and the beautiful moorland, but we were so close to our final destination that we just wanted to get there.

The hike was tough, and it felt like Bowness was never going to arrive, with all the constant up and downs in the fields. However, the highlight of the trip for me was when Iain slipped and fell in mud just 3km short of the finish, and was completely caked in mud. I couldn't stop laughing for the next couple of km, which certainly kept our spirits high, although I don't think Iain was too happy about it.

Eventually, we caught a glimpse of Windermere, and then we finally saw the finishing plaque. It was a bittersweet moment as my feet were glad to get to the end and complete our challenge, but at the same time, it was sad to know it had all come to an end.

Thanks for watching our video. I enjoyed this so much that the following week, I took myself on another 73 mile solo hike across the Cumbria Way over 3 days. Be sure to subscribe and stay tuned to see the video in the next couple of weeks!

Great effort Kris watched all four. Falling on the mud….Gold Looked like you both had a scream. Would be good to see more hikes with you both in them.
  • That was brilliant, well done to you both. Great adventure, really enjoyed the series. Hopefully one day I will bum in to you both on the trails. 🙌

Watched all 3 of the vids of yours on this route so decided to give it a go myself but starting from bowness on Windermere and finishing at Ilkley. I did it a couple of days ago ( march 24) and completed it over 3 days. I even went off route abit so I could summit whernside😊 Great route and lovely scenery but my shoulders were totally destroyed after carrying 20kg on my back. Overall I ended up doing 89 miles and the detour to whernside and getting lost a few times put milage on the hike......over all a fantastic walk with a bit of great wild camping......lots of mud and a good few bogs... Some sun and lots of rain.....loved it😊

Great walk - well done to both of you. Hope you got a deserved pint down at the Royal Oak in Bowness. Cheers.
  • Another inspirational video to encourage me to get out there. As we say in Scotland - "If you don't laugh, you greet."
  • Kris, I'll be having my second crack at this starting tomorrow. This time I've got my new Altras and your maps to help me. Let's see if this time I can make it past Grassington, lol. Thanks for all you do.
