  • Thank you for this video. I am having the same alarm problem with my 2010 and will try this fix today.

You're absolutely correct. There is a switch on the back side of the latch that's normally closed. When the latch is released, a lock arm swings and presses a small lever on the switch which opens the circuit. It's a terrible design with a cheap switch that is prone to fail due to outside elements, hence the 3am random alarms. Splicing the circuit, bypassing the switch effectively tells the ECM/PCM that the hood is closed, regardless of its state. The alarm will never trigger again, unless the splice fails, which is why I soldered mine.

its 3 am here and i'm up to keep stop that freaking horn by pressing remote buttons. already removed the s- fuse yesterday but no change.
  • Its useful for us here in Nigeria. People steal batteries from cars and also the ECU Module, since its harder and more riskier to break into and steal the car itself. Mine is a 2005 highlander and this feature or programming has helped in confidence when parking whenever i travel and even in my neighbourhood...

Thanks for the video. I had same issue we used this technique, the issue is resolved! My alarm was going off 3 x through day & night after driving through an area of road that flooded out.
  • Thanks Mr Easthood Racing! I've been driving without a horn for a year (I took out horn and s-horn fuses). I finally had the guts to make the chop. ***NOTE FOR RIGHT HAND DRIVE HIGHLANDER/KLUGER DRIVERS (NZ, AUS, UK, JAPAN etc.) - the whole latch assembly is a mirror image of this video and the wire is on the left not the right for us.😀
  • Hello from Ireland, your video was a great help to me, I have a 2006 toyota hilux that start alarming 5 min after I lock it every time! I spliced the 2 wires together and it hasn't set of the alarm since and its been 2 months now,I asked the local dealership and they said they never heard of it before, thank you for you video 🙂
  • Great Video! There are several different fixes for this issue. On my 2009 Venza the "S-Horn" fuse was not an option. This fix was easy. Did it without taking off the grill. It had gotten so bad that I was unhooking the battery every night. Thanks Easthood Racing.

Thank you for the info, fixed the problem I had on my 08 highlander.
  • @kellmarktv
Thank you for this great information 👍🏽 I'm fed up with mine. I'll now fix it. BTW I have to 09 limited, still runs like new✔️✅️

Thank you for the helpful video! We were able to fix my son's 2008 Highlander that had the issue. Interesting the switch was failing on the car more in the cold weather.

Thank you very much for the simple fix here, brother. It has restored sanity to myself and the neighborhood.
